I had my inspiron 1520 (with 9 cell battery) fully charged the night before, and when I turned it on this morning (~6-7 hours later), the battery indicator says it is 93% already. Does this sound right or the battery get drained too quickly?

    I don't think it's the draining after a night's sleep.
It's the draining after a Vista boot up.

Was it plugged in the whole time or not?

If not, then obviously it took some power to boot up the machine, that doesn't magically happen w.o any need for power.

If yes, then there might be a problem with your dc jack/ac adapter.

Did you shutdown overnight or put it into sleep mode? If it was sleep mode then that's about right.

Oh, it's XP. I don't know. Fpr Vista my experience shows a 4-6% for a boot. It has to spin the disk, charge the capacitors, feed current to every circuit...and then boot a gigantic OS.

There's a way to find oput if it's the boot, though: leave it off for the night, then plug it in right before booting.Booting will drain power from the power adapter and there will be little or no time to recharge the battery. Read the charge immediately after boot. If it's still in the 93% area, then somethng happened during the night.
