I have an inspiron 1764, i5, windows 7. Brand new 9 cell battery, when i turn my computer into hibernation mode, the battery drains within 12-18 hours??? I am not going to sleep mode, its definitely in hibernation. I have checked to make sure that the hybrid sleep is off in advancced settings, Please help? any ideas....

The only thing i can think is that your battery have some problems, but not related to hibernation. -
Either it is not going into hibernation or something is bringing your system out of hibernation. As MarkraM stated, if it were truly hibernated it wouldn't drain the battery that fast.

Then re-install it and see if there is any charge. If there is a reasonable charge left, you have a good battery and a problem with the PC. If there is no charge left, you have a bad battery.
Most recent Dell batteries have a pushbutton and a row of LEDs which will tell you the level of charge even if the battery isn't installed in the PC.
