Okay I posted a little while ago that my battery lost charge even when it was out of the computer. I would lose a few percent over the course of maybe 5-6 hours.

Well today I finally charged it up and took the battey out all day, put it back in and sure enough its still 100%. So now I know the computer is causing the battery to drain a few percent even when its off.

Now any ideas of what could be causing it?

    I have a 6000d with a 1.86Ghz Pentium M and 1GB of RAM, Intel 2200BG.

if its just losing a few % every day i think that may be normal for a lithium battery.

Also, don't store your battery at 100%, i heard around 80 -85% storage level was optimal for batterly long term life

No, this shouldnt be normal. When I remove my battery from the laptop it will not lose a single percent. However if i keep it in the laptop and the laptop is off it will lose a few percent overnight.

This means that the laptop is doing something to drain the battery. I just cant figure out what.

Batteries lose a few percent even if in the computer or not. It's a slow process. However, it won't register on the battery because the indicators are like 10, 20, 30, 40 and so forth. You don't notice 1 less indicator until it lost more then that. Another possibility is that the computer says it lost 3% even though it hasn't last anything. I know my battery says 2 hours at 100% but when I get to 50% it says 3 hours. The program isn't calibrated really good on my computer because I'm guessing the speed step thing throws off the estimation.

Unless your battery is completely dead after 10 minutes of use on battery power (ie not plugged into AC) then it's fine. Try one day to just use the battery till it gets to 10% and the computer warns you to recharge. Then recharge.

If you really think your battery cannot hold a charge and needs replacing contact dell if it's still under warranty. Otherwise just go buy a new battery if it concerns you still.

Well no, the battery appears fine. When I take the battery out and put it in later it LOSES NOTHING.

It only loses charge on its own if I leave it inside my laptop while the laptop is off.

Thats why I suspect its the laptop itself that drains battery power even when off.

thats also normal. Unless it is draining your entire battery. A few % is nothing. Even when I have my ac plugged in and the battery says 100% as soon as I disconnect my ac it says 97% ... it's nothing to worry about unless you believe the machine is going to drain the entire battery for no apparent reason.
