While reading on the forums i see that for the 1720, if you have a 9 cell the battery sticks out. So if you have the 6 cell it doesn't stick out?

also the vostro 1700, someone mentions that the 9 cell battery doesn't stick out? how does that work? don' they have same chassis?

and for the 1520 or the vostro 1500 does the 9 cell battery stick out?

    thankyou

no body has confirmed that it sticks out on the 1700 yet, but I would guess that it does if on the 1720 as people say thy are basically the same cases. I am not positive but I think it was confirmed as sticking out on a 1520 and not sure about 1500

The 9-cell does stick out on the 1520. I have the 1520 with the 9-cell, but it hasn't been a problem when using it. It's very securely attached, and when using it on your lap it's just like there's another 3/4 inch or so on the chassis. I'd say it's well worth it for the extra battery life. The estimated life is as high as 5 hours on power saver mode, though I always end up doing something demanding that makes it lower than that. You get more than an hour on high performance mode using demanding applications, as well - I've done that before, though I always end up doing something low-demanding in there so I don't have a definitive maximum life figure for that either, but it is more than an hour.

Just make sure that when you get a carrying case you remember you have that extra space requirement for the battery - otherwise you might have to take the battery out to get it in the case. Which isn't too hard, it just isn't preferable.

9 cell batteries will stick out on most computer brands regardless of screen size. Most are designed to fit flush with the 6 cell battery.
