So I'm not sure what's going on with my laptop but every time I shut down my laptop and charge up my battery completely, it won't turn on without the charger.

However, when I suspend/hibernate my laptop, it'll boot up fine without any problems. It's just when I shut down my laptop, it'll give me the orange light on my laptop.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520, since you seem to be the expert on this laptop, I was wondering if you could tell me what I am doing wrong here.

The battery will charge/discharge normally, however it has a little wear on it. I'd say about 12% on 6-Cell 5200mah and my 9-cell 7200mah is just as good as a brand new 6-cell at this point.

Is it solid amber or flashing amber? Mine was a flashing amber (my Vostro 1500's 9 cell battery conked out soon after that), but I didn't have any issues trying to get it to start up. You've tried with 2 different batteries?

It's a flashing amber but it only appears when I try to power up my laptop from a complete shut-down. And not always either, I was able to determine that it was only when I had the 6-cell battery attached that it did that. Here's a little background information on that:

Well, I purchased both of them at the same time and when I got them and tested them out (approximately last winter, precisely January when the whole Sandy Bridge fiasco popped off), these were the results I had and I've added current charge capacities to them as well:

    9-Cell Battery:
    01/2011 - Full Charge Capacity: 79,920 mWh
    01/2011 - Designed Charge Capacity: 73,260 mWh
12/2011 - Current Full Charge Capacity: 44,134 mWh

    6-Cell Battery:
    01/2011 - Full Charge Capacity: 52,350 mWh
    01/2011 - Designed Charge Capacity: 48,840 mWh
12/2011 - Current Full Charge Capacity: 38,417 mWh

According to SIW, I have a 22% wear level on the 6-cell and a 40% wear on the 9-cell.
