I did a clean reinstall of Windows XP MCE on my new e1505, and now I have no way of knowing what my battery power is. I installed all the drivers I knew of, but I must be missing something!

Did you try checking out the power settings?
Control Panel -> Performance -> Power settings -> check all the tabs until one comes up with the battery power. There will be an option to have it displayed at all times by the time in the bottom right corner of the screen. -
I like to use Notebook Hardware Control to display a battery icon in my system tray all the time - it will show a remaining time or percentage without clicking on it, unlike the Windows icon. Also, on the 1505 you can hit Function+F3 to bring up the Windows Battery Meter.

Now how about making my Function button work?

Do you have the QuickSet program installed?
EDIT: I think that the function buttons should work without that being installed, but it's worth a shot.
Battery Power???
