I have a new Dell Insprion 1501 and I would like to know why is there so much fluctuation in the amount of time left on my battery? One minute it's 4 hr. something and the next minute it's 2 hr. something and it goes back and forth. It doesn't even last as long as it should.

The estimated battery life is just an estimate, it takes what you are doing right at that moment and bases the estimated life on if you were doing that same task until it runs out.

Even if it just left on with no activity, the battery life keeps fluctuating.

I turned off my laptop with 2 hours of battery life left last night and this morning when I turned it on, it's saying that my battery is low and the battery indicator is orange.

I suggest you contact Dell and explain the problem. You state your Inspiron is new, which should not be affected by the recall from several years back. However, it's better to be safe than sorry.
