    Like beating a dead horse. Use the search or read my review in my sig. This has been talked about A LOT.

    Edit: dont take this in a mean way, I was just being informative and it looks like I was being an ass. ;)

    It is the glossy coat that they put on the screen. And yes i does make the colors look more vibrant, but it also causes a glare and reflection in certain types of lighting.

    this is incorrect.

    resolution is resolution and is independent of glossy finishes

    Truelife is amazing,perfect for watching movies and playing,games,but if your in a room with light it will make the screen have glares.Base screen is dull and boring but you won't get glares.

    Go to a store and see if the reflection on a glossy screen bothers you when you compare it to a matte screen. It's a personal preference. I myself prefer matte screens.

    I really have no prefence between glossy and non. I used a glossy screen for a few day on my sisters HP and colors are brighter (really, colors are colors to me. As long as fire trucks are red and grass remains green. I'm good). I didn't notice the reflection much either. My own Dell as a matte screen. This is very subjective. It's a good idea to check out screens in stores. If you can get to a Dell kiosk at a mall that's the best place to go. You'll get to see actual Dell screens. Normally the E1505 on display was the WSXGA+ Trulife display and this is true of both kiosks in my place.

    no laptop is good in direct sunlight, after using a glossy screen for a few months, compared with my old hpn600 with a matte screen, glossy wins hands down, unless your going to use it mainly under direct overhead flourescent lighting, go with truelife

    For gaming, doesn't true life screens tax the GPU more because of the increased native res?

    once again, no, truelife is the coating, it has nothing to do with resolution, you can only get the higher res screens in truelife, and you can also get the standard res screen in truelife

    These are names used by Dell to describe a certain function or upgrade. For example look at my sig, I have both Truelife and Ultrasharp.

    Truelife = Glossy
    Ultrasharp = High Resolution

    ultrasharp is high resolution?

    i thot it was greater viewing angles.

    AFAIK, resolution is independent of any other naming convention.

    resolution = resolution.

    Basically when you have the operating system loaded once, you won't actually notice the glare caused by normal daylight. I advise to keep the brightness at MAX. Also if you have the bucks - go for the top option for the screen which is above trulife. That screen is really nice.

    Good Job you hit the nail on the head.

    UltraSharp = wide viewing angle
    TrueLife = Glossy Chrisp Screen
    High Res = High Res

    GO here to find out all about dell monitors and their specs. When in doubt go to THE SOURCE http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/vectors/en/2002_lcd?c=us&l=en&s=corp

    i got some problems using the lcd at full brightness in the night. after 4-6h, it bothers my eyes and i step back 3 levels. this is non-glossy screen. this means that on a glossy one it gets worst?

    ps: or is just my eyes crying for rest? :p

    This is not entirely true. My WSXGA+ is the brightest laptop lcd I have owned. True it is glossy and can cause some glare, but this is easily dealt with by repositioning the screen. The added brightness of the lcd more than makes up for this problem and i would recommend my truelife screen to anyone who likes the larger resolutions (ie... smaller icons and text). Now the problem is that Dell uses several different manufacturers for their LCD panels and not all TrueLife LCD's are the same. I have no Idea who makes mine (powerstrip lists it as a Microsoft Default LCD), but it is pretty nice.

    Also,
    As mentioned above, viewing angle is simply awesome.

    It is bad for you to do any kind of viewing in the dark. TV, Computer, Video Games... all bad at night, try turning on a few lights and make it comfortable so that your eyes dont strain. There was a study done on this years ago, that its bad to sit in a dark room while viewing monitors, tv, etc.
