    Laptop: Dell e1705
Video Card: GeForce Go 7900 GS
    CPU: Core 2 Duo

I just ran the dell diagnostics and it said that I had bad video memory. I have horizontal lines going across the screen at boot time. I took apart the laptop last night and cleaned it out hoping the problem would go away but it didnt :( .

Does anyone know if this means I have to replace the entire graphics card? My warranty ran out very recently (figures).

Hmm I think you can still ask DELL to do the service for you and you pay for the repairs....

They said the part would have to be replaced but wouldn't give me a quote. The part number #YF227 is listed as 999.99 dollars for a refurbished part... I think i'd rather do it myself with one from ebay. I was just wondering if anyone else ran into this problem in case there was another fix.

You can buy a new notebook for that price  ! Change it yourself. I think that part number is for a Go 7900GTX , here is a quick eBay link. Goes for less than 300. Before you buy that read some information on how to upgrade to a 7900GTX since E1705 doesn't have the 7900GTX as a standard option. Or you could get a 7900GS (the same card you already have)

how recently did your warranty run out. if it was a matter of a week or so, you might be able to get them to fix it under warranty still if you talk really nice.

Just bought a Go 7900GTX for 249.99, this seems to be a much better option because of the dual heat pipes. The 7900 GS was underperforming anyway which is why I updated the drivers and now I can only run it in VGA mode. I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing I'll have to contact some people who have already done the process to see if they have any tips. As for the warranty, it's been over a month ( I consider that recently ;) )

If you ever get the chance please tell how it went with the new card. I have the same problem and I need a new card.

Although warranty extension is an option as well...

I've sent you PM, if you ever get the chance, please reply.

    Cheers.
