I posted this to the Vostro 1720 users thread, but that's kind-of buried there, so I thought I'd start a new thread: mods, feel free to delete if this type of repost is objectionable... I'm just trying to help!
So, the attached image (a pale olive-green / beige) looks like a solid rectangle of a single colour on a 'proper' screen, but on my Vostro 1720 and my colleagues Precision M60, near the left-edge of the screen it noticeably looks like 'courdoroy', striped horizontally, the entire height of the screen, three inches wide.
If you view this image zoomed in to fill the entire screen, you will notice (like I noticed on the two Samsung 3155 screens I've had) a discolouration and striping. Even the most amateur tech would be able to tell that it's just not right.
The 'graininess' is almost imperceptable on my screen, but the discolouration is very noticeable.

So if we see some sort of striping on it zoomed in, that means our screens are grainy?

I don't see any issue!

Of course you don't see any issue! It is an example where on the pale olive/beige screen shot, he could see strips on "his screen".
