Just received my Vostro 1500 today. The screen is an AUO WXGA with TrueLife and the backlight bleeding is causing me untold amounts of irritation.

Here's a photo (dimly lit room; and for those photographically inclined - 1/8s f5.6 ISO800):

Viewing angles for the various displays are (supposedly) as follows:

    Horizontal viewing angle:
    • WSXGA+ +60/-60
    • WXGA+ +40/-40
    • WXGA +40/-40
    Vertical viewing angle
    • WSXGA+ +40/-50
    • WXGA+ +30/-30
    • WXGA +15/-30

This can be confirmed on Dell's website:
    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/learnmore/learnmore.aspx/hmc_screen_inspn_nb?c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&~lt=popup&ref=CFG

So is there any evidence that, on average, WXGA+ displays are showing less backlight bleeding than the WXGA displays?

If this is indeed the case, I'm going to ask Dell to send me a WXGA+ instead... my eyes and brain have made their intentions quite clear - persistent headaches and feelings of annoyance until the matter is resolved!

unless you cancel get a refund and completely re-order you can not get a different screen.. i was on the phone with dell yesterday for near 4 hours total about the same screen... trust me they hate me..... they said there is not way to get a different resolution unless i re-order which kills my deal.. it would cost me almost 400$ more to change my order NOT INCLUDING THE price difference of the newer screen. they said they can not and will not match the price from when i bought it.. all i got was a "sorry" and this was a dell case manager that called me back.. they told me the only step higher is corporate..

Yuck. How can they not do anything? Alienware replaced my screen which was just like that without any questions asked. Should be coming back tomorrow.

I have to wonder if there isn't a way to open the LCD casing up, and put some electrical tape between the actual LCD and the backlighting to fix the problem.

They'll replace a screen, they just won't let you upgrade/change it without re-ordering.

That's about the same light leakage I have on my SEC. Considering the grainy AUO I received as a replacement (still with light leakage) I think I may just live with it, or ask for another replacement.

I think the only options available is to send it in for a "repair" or ask for a replacement to be shipped to you.
