It seems that every time I chat with Dell, I find another piece of bad news. This time, I was asking about anything that was on backorder for my order. Here is what happened:

Agent (Swati Bhanda): "Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay due to supply constraint and we will not be able to ship your order until 8/13/2007. Otherwise, we will continue working hard to get your order to you.
Agent (Swati Bhanda): "Joe, all the screens are backordered, if you wish I can cancel the order for you."

Ohhhhh man. Great. Does anyone else want to go to Dell Chat and ask about this, so that we can confirm it?

Here is the email I recieved from my dell rep.

As of today, my order is still in production with and est ship of 8/1. If it doesn't ship I might have to go buy a prebuilt notebook from Costco. I really don't want a prebuilt because they don't have the options I need.

EDIT: Redsox, when was your original Est. Ship, and did it change today when you contacted them?

No, mine has always been 8/13. I was hoping it would ship before then, but it isn't looking so good.

It must be that whoever is manufacturing the screens is screwing up big time. They must be if this is truly an industry-wide problem. Either that or it's just because there are way too many orders (back to school).

    Conspiracy theory: Grainy screens?

Yeah, I'm guessing its back to school, mixed with their new models... which usually leads to a large increase in sales. I just ordered mines yesterday.... expected shipping... 8/20 =-(

the service rep today told me that I was going to get my computer on or before my est. shipping date (8/3) despite the fact that it has been in preproduction since time of order... he also updated me to free next day shipping... i highly doubt it will make it here by next week, however! ugh

I called this evening and I was told that my order would ship on or before 8/1. It is in production but he said it's on time and assured me that it won't get delayed this time. Lets hope he's right....

I checked the build website again this morning, and I found out that the delays for the colors went down again. But now, there is a delay for Ruby Red. The only non-delayed colors are black, brown and white. The Midnight Blue delay went down to four days, though.

And checking the delays for the screens, there is a 7 day delay for the WXGA glossy. However, there is no delay for the WXGA anti-glare (the one I have) or the WXGA+.

Dell CS is so amazingly inconsistent. I am just going to keep calling the 1 800 433 9014 number and waiting for it to say "testing" instead of "build". This is sooo ridiculous.
