    Hey all
I just got Battlefield 2:Special Forces (expansion pack to BF2) as a gift. However playing it's compleatly different from BF in the sense that the game play is really really choppy. I never experienced this choppy gameplay in the original BF2. The game lags a lot even tho my ping is in the 50's, the FPS is really low too I suspect and I notice it accessing my HD frequently as well. Also load times are insanely long, like over 4 mins. I noticed I had a similar problem with the original battlefield 2, but it seems that the expansion adds a little extra time.
    I have a Dell 9300, 1.73 centrino, 1 gig of ram, 80 gig 5400rpm hd and 6800go that's overclocked at 348/707 using the newest x-treme g mobile force drivers.
anyone got a fix for this?
    thanks all

I heard many people face the same problem too. I thought Dell 9300 should handle it without problem due to 9300 has the best Video card out there. Did you close all programs before you run the game?

The RAM might be the limitation. When I had 1GB of RAM, I ran out in BattleField 2 (regular), and it occasionally skipped around. Not the fault of my video card or Internet connection.

I would upgrade your RAM to 2GB, that is what worked for me. If you can't do that, then disable the Windows XP themes, shut down a lot of you background stuff, etc, to free up some RAM.

you only need 2 gb of ram if you most of the settings on high. if you play on medium you do not get loading lag. the extreme g drivers are kinda weird when you install them with the "performance tweaks". my cs ran like crap after i installed the xtreme-g drivers with the tweaks. so if turning your settings to medium doesn't help, try reinstalling the drivers with stock settings.

i can run BF2 on my 6000 w/ X300 just fine. try resetting the clock speed on your video card to default.

i dont know what's going on cause I can play the original bf2 with no problems but the expansion has crappy performance. I was under the impression that i could get off playing the game well considering how high end the 9300 is, but even on medium and overclocked the game lags. Plus load times are horrible with this game as each map can easily take more than 5 mins to load.
The worst is how the game seems to hang sometimes. I mean it'll run fine and then I'll notice the hd light go on and the game suddenly jerks on me. Does anyone else on this board own the expansion pack?
BTW happy new year to all!

Try Defragging your HDD also, that might help.

if your settings are on high, drop them to medium....this is a known problem with BF2 and only having 1 GB ram.

yea you know what? I set all my stuff to low and it works fine now on Special Forces...
thats annoying, I was under the impression that with a computer as good as the 9300, I'd get better performance. However BF2 is one of the most demanding games on the market right now so I guess it could be worse.

I have played with BF2:SF for about 2 months now. Frame rates have took a hit from the original BF2 thats for sure. I have most settings on low-medium to have it play smooth. One thing I did notice about BF2 (maybe every other game as well) is that BF2 is limited to your screens refresh rate (which is @60). When I hooked up my i9300 to my 19" ViewSonic it played ALOT smoother.. you should try it and see for yourself. I have a 9300 myself with these specs: 1.86 ghz, 2gb ram, 80 gb 7200 HD and I have not o/ced at all.
