    Hey all,

My sister got a battery problem. I just found out today. The problem is that battery wont charged up to 80% and the battery light indicator flashes green and orange. According to the manual, when the battery light indicator flashes green and orange, it means too hot to change. I know it isnt this because indicator flashes green and orange when on battery mode. So, I am about 80% certain that the battery dying. Also, I check battery health on the BIOS, it said, that it will charges normally but the life of the battery will decrease, or something like that.

My sister had this notebook for about 7 months (still under warrenty, 2 yrs) and I know my sister uses the battery a lot, and its normal. So I guess my question is do you guys agreed that the battery is dying and buy a replacement battery?

    Thanks guys.

    JC

Well from a friend that used to work on laptops i was asking him battery ?s if your sister used her laptop down to 50-60% every time then put it on charge it causes the battery to develop memory and wont charge as well. Im not sure if thats the case but could be.

L-ions dont devolp memory cycles, they just diminish capacity over time, I would try another battery just to be sure its the battery, and not something screwy with the notebook since its still under warranty

It's possible you have a bad battery there. There seem to be a lot of them out there right now. I'd see if Dell is willing to send you a replacement, since 7-months is too short a time for a working Li-Ion battery to die out even from everyday use.

Perhaps her battery came from older stock and the elements have deteriorated or worse, there has been damage to the battery or its safety circuit causing it to heat up. Does it get warm/hot when charging? If so, don't use it anymore. That can be a bad sign.

And as mentioned, Li-Ion batteries do not suffer from the memory-effect. That's for older battery technologies like Ni-Cad or Ni-MH. Refer to the battery guide for more information on Li-Ion batteries.

    Thanks guys. :)

chrisyano, I would have to agreed with you. Because after when I was talking to Dell about the battery problem, my sister told me that the battery WONT charge at all, the battery drop dead litterly. Now I know she got serious problem. And now she going back to school, which is pretty far. Anyway my brother is going to take care of it.
