I was tired of the trial version of cpucool that I was using, while I was in search of a free fan controller I stumbled across "I8kfangui"

    get it at http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html

I use I8kfangui, its the greatest. My CPU temp has NEVER gotten above 35 degrees C since I started using it ?(right now sitting idle its only at 21 C). If you have an inspiron or one of the supported models it is by far the best.

Thank you for the reminder about this software. A quick search of the forums turns up 113 previous threads where I8kfanGUI is mentioned. It is a good program, indeed.

is running it to much a problem? If its always turning on your fans, will it burn them out sooner?

isnt your laptop louder because it kicks in the fans?

This program is well known, as was stated before. I used for about 10 minutes and decided that it was a waste of my time. The controller did work and all temperatures were being displayed but there is really no reason for it other than something to play with.

Anyone know the recomended temps for the E1505? My fans seldom kick on, but it's never felt hot.

Ohh airforceone my dear friend, it does have one use...let me whisper it... overclocking. Ha, this was my orginal reason for getting the program, but due to me being lazy I havent gotten around to overclocking my laptop yet :D .

Well, I can tell you what my temps are for my E1705 (which theoretically should be hotter than your E1505). My cpu is at 41 degrees C, gpu at 48, my hard drive is at 43 (the rest dont really matter). Now my CPU temp is actually pretty high (for my laptop) right because I'm running a virus scan and its using alot of cpu, plus my lappy has been running since last night. All of my temps are pretty low and thats because I have the fans set to kick in before they get much higher than what they are. The GPU should be able to withstand about 90 degrees C but you would be much more comfortable at like 60 (idle). Your gpu should ussualy be the hottest thing in your laptop (other than computers with integrated graphics cards). If you just got done gaming all your temps will obviously be higher than what I just listed. So what sort of temps are you getting?

i have an inspiron 6000. my cpu hangs at 33 or so since i've undervolted. 44 for the gpu and 43 for the hd. Because the e1705/9300 has a secondary fan on the hard drive side, it tends to be a bit cooler. this is why i'm getting a bytecc cooler :D

What offsets are people using? Are they necessary or does I8kfanGUI read all the temperatures quite accurately 'out the box'?

That may be true for desktops that have the ability to be overclocked but our dell laptops can not be over clocked through the bios. If there is a way it will be a board modification and cause a loss of warranty. If you do get your machine to overclock let us know and there had better be a decent writeup or we will IM you till you give in. :p

There is an official E1705 overclocking thread on this forum, with instructions on how to do it. Its all made possible by the 7900gs (ohh what a wonderful card it is).

Edit: here it is: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64385&highlight=E1705+overclocking+thread alright, its actually a 7900gs overclocking thread but most everyone in it has an E1705.

You know what....I think I'm going to do it (after I backup ALL of my data, lmao). I think I'll just set the clocks to like 450/1100, that overclocking guide says that is plenty stable. Hmm, but I think I will do this next week, I've been up for 30 hours straight and need to get up early again tommorow, ha ha.

I don't see why it would, there little electric motors, I'm no expert but starting and stopping repeatedly should make any difference.

Good stuff spooky but I was referring to CPU's! I have a 400MHz media accelerator 950 by intel :p Kidding I know on board Video sucks but it does what I need. I dont game but in the future if I can find a game that I can get into I will upgrade.

Any one know of a CPU overclock for Dells with Centrino DUO's?

So what sort of temps are you getting?

Since I've downloaded the program, my CPU normally reads about 46c with a peak of 57. After sitting all day in stand-by, it read 22c.

After figuring out how to and enabling the other temp controls they now read , GPU 47/peak 49, memory 51/peak 57, chipset 47/peak 49 and HD 48/peak 50.

Again for the most part my fans never activate.

Two minutes since my last post my CPU reads 33. I never would have thought it could drop so much so soon. Maybe I'm just tone deaf and can't hear the fans!

    PS back up to 40

    i dont get it!
i use the program..2nd day now...
my cpu temp never dropped below 49 in normal use, 54 in full load. the peak is usually at 56-57

    1. running so often the fans - on/off - will prematurly tired them?
    2. i would appreciate you tell the enviroment temp as well and were the laptop stands.(eg: if it rests in the bed, sinking into a pillow it gets hotter, if on your lap is litt bit hotter, on a desk si normal use)

my above temp are with the lappy on a desk, at a 27C enviroment.

I've beem using it for months, I have an e1505, 1.66 yonah,1 gig533 ram,60 gig 7200 rpm hd,at x1300 video, I have my fan set to run at low all the time, and I keep it on an aluminum cooler master notepal cooling pad, I added standoffs to the back of it to keep the rear of the notebook elevated and reversed the flow of the pads fans, at home wich I try to keep around 25c,my temps are, cpu 34c light load, 51c max load(2 instances of FAH),gpu is 41 light, 54 after looping 3dmark 05 for an hour, mem 43, 50 peak, 35, 41 peak, running the fans all the time wont hurt anything, only worry would be a quicker accumulation of dust, wich weekly or bi weekly bursts of compressed air will make that a non issue, before I set the fan to run constantly, my average cpu temp was always in the upper 40's, lower 50's, I like it much better now

Hiker: those temps are great, if they don't raise more than like 20 degrees while gaming then your temps should be A-OK.

Xilviu: 1. I don't THINK it can really damage your fans, but you might want to double check on that.
    2. I ussually assume the enviroment temp is about 70F and the person is using it on a desk, because thats most often the case.
