Hi, I've just taken delivery of a Dell XPS 15, and it has a recovery partition. I've not used a laptop with a recovery partition before, so I wanted to check what will stop it working before I do that accidentally! Will any of the following stop the recovery partition working:

Installing linux,, and putting the bootloader at the beginning of the drive.
Doing an in-place upgrade to a different version of windows.
Formatting the windows partition (but not the recovery partition) and re-installing windows with either a vanilla version of windows, or the dell recovery media.

    Thanks!

Best advice would be to create the recovery disks using DataSafe and store them in a safe place.

You can also download a legit copy of Windows and use your Key on the bottom of the laptop to activate it should u ever lose your hard drive

Thanks for the replies - I've made the recovery disks, but I'm still interested in what will or will not break the ability to use the recovery partition.....

if your hard drive fails you could lose the recovery partition, depending on the type of failure.
