    hi everyone,
im bothered with GPU issue. my 1 yr warranty will expire in few days. the quote of 200$ on one yr warranty extension is EVIL.

so my question is whether i can get 6 month more life on gpu. from yesteryear august i quit playing games. always use in powermizer mode with no intense work.dont knoe how much dell will charge for motherboard replacement

I've used my computer heavily for well over a year. No issues at all. While you're on the subject of questions that have no determinate answer, wanna know when your hard drive will die as well?

No mention of what laptop your referring to. If it's an XPS 1530 then the card is part of the motherboard. If it's a Vostro 1500 or Vostro 1700 then it is a separate card that connects to the mobo.

Either way as has been suggested save your money and put it towards a new laptop. If you have a Vostro 1500/1700 then you can buy the card on eBay and it install it yourself. A lot of the problem have arisen due to excessive heat from either extreme gaming or overclocking. There are many on this site who own a XPS 1530 for 2+ years and have no problems. Of course it involves a good dose of luck, and usage so mileage will vary. ;)

8600m Gt can die any time as it has the g84 core and dell is offering one more year warranty for free for 8600m gt.

I have the 8600 GPU on my 1530...no problems...I don't worry about that stuff..I have other issues in life to worry about, then something that hasn't even happened ~ or might not even happen ;)

Your one year warranty on your lappy is going to expire..but you have the extra one year warranty on the GPU that Dell has given due to the issue with Nvidia. So consider yourself covered in that aspect for the next year! (If you have one of the Models that Dell is covering).

    Cin ;) :)

8700m gt also has a g84 core so why dell is not supporting M1730?

hey is the 8600m gt easily 'degraded' over time cause i got one in my Inspiron 1520 and it just feels a bit sluggish in games now, that would be COD WaW and Mount & Blade which I don't believe is very taxing on a system even with army sizes at 100. I bought a 3 year on-site warranty with mine and was wondering if it could be swapped. That along with my problematic DVD-RW!

My 8600mGT has been running 24 hours a day 7 days a week for well over a year, and its over clocked. I play games ALOT, and I sometimes do 3d work in CAD with it and it still runs great.

How come it becomes degraded? It's probably you windows that needs a maintenance. Maybe you could do a disk defragmentation or a good reformat. Your computer will become as good as new.

well my geforce 8600gt started giving artifacts 5 months after i bought it, you tell me :D and now im getting it replaced again because its still overheating... so it has given troubles, but seems it has been stable for most people, like Cin :D

maybe because im always gaming on it, and i use my games at a very high resolution, so its running 100% almost all the time, but still, a normal GPU is designed to run at 100% all the time, but seems its the combination of the bad cooling system on the m1530 and the faulty solder, but oh well, its an awsome computer, so it pays off :D

but the 8xx series isnt the only one, my teacher has a compaq with a geforce 6200, and it had the same solder problem....

IMO ati seems to be offering best performance price wise, but i never liked their software... dont know... i just like nvidia better :D

I have a nasty WoW addiction unfortunately. But yeah my 8600mGT has been working great, and was a huge improvement over the x1600 it replaced. Now if only my dell supported quad core processors Id be set for a while.

i just sent my inspiron back to dell..got a rma #... i could not boot into windows in safemood, or normally on battery power..suspect motherboard problem...it would boot with ac dapter... not sure if after refund , if i will try another 1520 inspiron with a 8600gt....sort of hate ati because i deal with linux sometimes. and much easier with nivida cards.....?
