Hello all. I've got a question about the reliability of any of the Dell automated status lines. I've been calling the first for the past 5 days and the second just today (I found it in another thread). Both appear to be for the US only.

    - 800-433-9014 reports my laptop as "Being Processed" and delivered on 1/6. That is the day an accessory (ordered at the same time as my laptop), but no laptop, was delivered.

    - 800-283-2210 opt. 3, 2, 1, 1 reports my laptop as "In Production" and that it was delivered on 1/6???

Any clue what gives? I've called and spoken to a Indian Dell rep. once and was politely told the same information that the website has and it would be a good idea if I just watched for updates on the website instead of calling...

If I were to trust either, I would go with the 2nd option 800-282-2210.
It feeds more information vs. the old Automated Dial.

The website..meh...it seems to never give "enough" information. Whereas, I can simply check the 2nd Automated Dial, get the information....Or, simply hit up a Rep, via Chat or Phone, and get the "latest and greatest" from them.

That is one of the things the Rep is there for "Support" to provide this information. So, don't you feel bad about "calling or chatting" with a Rep. And, always..get a "Case Number verbally from the Rep, and e-mailed to you". It's your documentation of what the conversation covered!

Thanks for the reply Cin'. Unfortunately even the second phone number given gave incomplete or erroneous information.
I was lucky and received my laptop, but my feeling is that Dell is now running it's operation like one of those "Lemony Snicket's a series of unfortunate events" books.

Yeah, well I've discovered that the 888-283-2210..likes to spit out several different ESD shipping dates...lol. I had thought my lappy was shipping originally on 1/22..Not. The shipping "stage" it tells you it is in, is usually correct. But the "shipping" date or date it gives..don't rely on that at 100%.

    Yes, a "Lemony Snicket's" of sorts...agreed....

I have an order placed for a Studio 17 i7 core on Dec 9. I call the first number and it says my order is being processed. The second number says my laptop is in the build stage.

So who knows what's going on. The Dell guy from India didn't know what was going on and just read some canned response about checking the website.
