Finally shipped! The wait is almost over! I too had NBD, but the Dell website says EDD of 09/11-09/13. I hope it's not accurate and by some act of God it arrives tomorrow so I can play with it over the weekend. But I'm still fine with it just having shipped at last... This has been some journey. I never thought I would be tracking airplanes through the air and calling a number three times a day just to check on the status of a package like a crazy person. Maybe the "Dell-ays" are all part of a plan to drive up the demand..?

Unbelievably, when dell CS told me yesterday that it would ship in 48-72 hours, they weren't even being optimistic! Just logged into my account expecting to see the usual "In Production" but instead:

    Shipped 06/09/2007 1:16:59 PM :D

Yay! So I guess it's left Austin and is being trucked up Toronto now. Anyone know when you get a tracking number?

Keep believin' Sam. Once that order gets going, it flies!

Where'd you get your tracking number at? I still have nothing on the website and nothing on the status line...

Mine went into boxing today. I don't know if that is good news or bad news, but I'm gonna be optimistic.

I've had zero delays thus far and my original ship date is this Tuesday, 9/11.

    I'm confident. I haven't even called/talked to a CSR yet.

For me it's just on the regular order status page. I'd check back in a couple hours and yours will probably be there.

So, after my chat, my tracking number is now on the dell order status page. The status page says DHL Express Ground, but my invoice says DHL Express Next-Day. The DHL website doesn't recognize the number yet. It better come tomorrow!! I can't wait any longer!!

Ordered XPS M1330 on August 6th here is my short story:

    August 6th: Order placed XPS 1330 Jetblack, T7500, 2GB, 9cell bat, 160gb 7200rpm, wireless N

August 13th: Call dell to confirm they say they expect an August 28th ship date (EDD according to order status is August 30th)

August 28th: Call dell because order status still displays August 30th as delivery date yet indicates that the order is still in production. CSR says that the ESD is now September 21st waiting for stock of monitors that should be delivered September 7.

August 28th - September 6th: Order status still shows in production with EDD of August 30th (If they just got order status working they would probably cut down on 90% of their calls)

September 6th: Status is now "shipped" and tracking is available with EDD of September 7th :)

Moral of the story: Signed up for notifications that never arrived, order status is useless and any delivery estimates you get prior to ship I would ignore. On the whole I got a one week delay on my order based on the original delivery date but I still waited 31 days for my laptop.

Pros with Dell imo: Good product at a good price good degree of customization

Cons with Dell: Customer Service, Delays

Knowing what I know now though I still would have bought the product (provided it arrives in it's expected condition)

I just called CS this morning to get the service tag and tracking number.

Haven't tried tracking yet, but get this - I entered my tag number into the Dell Support page, and unless there is a typo in the config (doubtful since they're supposed to -scan- each component as it goes in), they shipped my m1330 with 1GB instead of two:

    1 Y9530 DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 1GB, 667, 128X64, 8K, 200

Yippee. So much fun. I hope they just forgot to scan the second piece or something... :s

dude...that would suck... I hope they just forgot it too..

as for me, I am afraid to call and get the "No you weren't at the right priority position to get you parts from the Sep. 7th supply shipment, so you have to wait till the Sep. 20th one".. therefore I am applying the Hope-in-Silence treatment...if I get lucky It should ship early next week.

Weirdly enough, I think my laptop flew here from Austin:

    Status Shipment In Transit
    Date/Time SEPTEMBER 7, 2007 AT 16:36
Depot TORONTO SORT CTR/CTR TRIE, ON

    2007/09/07 16:36 Shipment In Transit
    2007/09/07 16:35 Received
    2007/09/06 18:30 In Transit in U.S.

Took less than one day to arrive in Toronto from the shipping time. So either it flew here, or Smokey was driving the linehaul truck. :D

UPDATE : On Friday (yesterday) I called Dell Canada CS by phone and asked about my order. Since I know they recieved a shippment of parts on Sept 7th, I was wondering if my order will take advantage of that an go through production... the answer was YES...great news I said

The CSR told me that my system did recieve the required parts (drive, LED screen) and its not close to finishing production. he expected it to be shipped in 2-3 days.. in fact he also took down my phone number and set up a phone call for tuesday promising that he (or somebody else) would call me up then with the tracking number (or something to that effect, tag??)..and with all luck I might even have the system by next weekend.

    cheers

    Hooray~

My laptop is coming tomorrow! (September 11). I've been getting really worried after reading all the delays in this forum but mine is arriving way before its estimated delivery date.

At the time of the order(August 21), the rep told me that it will take about 20 business days which would have made it September 18-19. In the order e-mail, the ESD was October 1 but now according to the status screen, the order was shipped on September 9!

I'm very happy and can't wait to play with my new computer and tease my bf about his old computer :)

For all those out there waiting for their laptop, don't lose hope. It could come earlier than you expected.

Im finding it really annoying now that I have to call up and speak to a person just to check the status of my laptop, and the person keeps saying mines
"In production" ... and that it should get to me on time.
I really don't see how it can be tested, boxed and shiped to me in such a small amount of time, unless "production" includes the testing and boxing? does anyone know?

Red1521, In Canada the "Production" phase includes : 1- Kitting, 2-Building, 3-Testing, 4-Boxing. Therefore, our orders go from "In production" to shipped pretty quick.. there is an intermediate stage called "Deliver prep" which usually starts and finishes within the same day.

I think that the UK orders pass through the same stages. The US customers are lucky enough to have the ability to check their specific production stage with an automated phone system...we can't!!

if your's get out of production within the next 2 days, then it might very well make the Sep 13th ship date.. good luck

Mine arrived yesterday afternoon, and I stayed up last night to repartition, reinstall Vista, and start setting things up.

For all of those still waiting for m1330s, it's worth the wait for an awesome notebook. It also looks like the general quality threshold has improved somewhat - other than a few remaining annoyances, I must say that I am extremely happy with my unit.

The latest news I saw is that the 1330 is now almost "in current production", meaning the worst of the delays should pretty much be over for this particular model:

    http://www.statesman.com/blogs/cont...7/09/06/dell_says_colored_laptop_probl_1.html

So hang on a few more days - I'm telling you it's worth it :D

Sam4jc, congrats on being shipped! Can't wait to hear what you think!

I will post more detailed thoughts and some photos this afternoon in a new thread.

    Cheers all.

    57 Days and counting …

“They” canceled my Order!? Said it was a configuration conflict (coulda-said-that-2-months-ago) however … after three hours on the phone with every Dell Customer Service rep, they finally got it reordered, exactly the same as the first one.

They threw in $150 credit after shipping and an extra year warranty as compensation. I’ll take it!
