So most people I've read posts from so far ordered in July and the people who ordered in August have a really close EDD... except me lol

Did I just fell into a gray zone or ... actually I this point I have no idea what could be happening... But yes I still have hope, maybe because it is my very first experience with Dell and my very first laptop.

So yeah, what's going on with orders made August?

i'm guessing that if you order any colors but black/white, you won't be expecting it soon until most of the july ships out

Well, my order was made on August 5 and my ETD is September 12-14.
It takes longer when you order one of the pretty colors.

I cancelled my original order and reordered on the 7th with a 9/11 shipping date. I'm in the same boat as you, except I ordered and waited for 25 days before I went to the back of the line.

August order here too, with an ESD in September.

I think a lot of folks were frightened off by the July delay times and ordered Vostros, and certain other models in specific colors such as black to avoid similar situations - hence the close dates.

As for folks like us with green inspirons and m1330s...well, we wait.

hey, I ordered aug 13, ESD sept 7... I've been told that there is a 23 day delay for LED backlit screen and slot loading drive (XPS m1330). but CSR couldn't tell me if I'll miss my ESD or not since there's a line up and my system might be at the right priority to get out by sept. 7th..

I ordered my laptop on 8/9 and it seems that others who ordered theirs before me have estimated ship dates that are later than mine. My ship date is Aug. 30th. Also, some who ordered after I did have already received their laptops. This doesn't make any sense. I understand that every computer is different; however, shouldn't the order that came first be made first? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to Dell's ship dates.

Hey, I also have an m1330 on order, placed aug 10, with an ESD of Sep 7 to Canada. Although online status still shows the ESD as Sep 7, a CSR using DOBS mentioned that - at the moment - it is looking more like Sep 17-19 due to serious delays with the LED LCDs.

Of course, this is always subject to change as inventory fluctuates, but I thought I'd let you know. Downer eh?

    Race you!! :p

With this system, when it generally comes time for your build, either all the parts are available for your configuration, or they're not. If everyone ahead of you in line, for whatever reason, is lacking a component for completion, the next machine in line that is fully kitted will get built, irrespective of the fact that it was "further back".

So, for example, if you're waiting for a red m1330 lid, and when they finally do arrive, there are no T7500 CPUs available for your config, your machine will remain delayed, while someone else's red T7300 will go into production.

If you're really unlucky, you could be guy with the red T7500 over and over. If you're really lucky, you could be the guy with the ted T7300 that just got bumped into build.

Thanks for clarifying Dell's shipping system. :) So, luck has a big impact on whether a person receives his or her laptop. Great! I'm almost expecting my ship date to be pushed further into September since I've been in the 'build' stage for almost two weeks now...oh well. I shall wait and TRY to be patient like the rest of you.

I'm another August orderer, but I read something unfortunate in the Financial Times today. Apparently Dell is not expected to get out of this colored-lid shortage chaos until the middle of October...so those of us who just ordered the colors could be in for just as long waits as the earlier purchasers. :(

...which is why I went to the Dell Outlet after reading that article and picked up a "Previously Ordered, New" 1521, which is still Sunshine Yellow and will be delivered in 3 days! Not quite the same specs, but comparable. If the wait starts to kill you, make sure you watch the Outlet for any re-furbs or P.O.News that might fit your tastes. I will be crossing my fingers for you though! They've got to get out of this mess sometime...

I have a feeling we might be waiting that long. When I ordered there were no delays, but when I talked to a CSR yesterday, she said they were waiting for parts... I think. It was difficult to understand her.

Quick question, I ordered my 1420 here in Canada on Aug 21, and I have an ESD of Sept 17. However, my laptop is already in production! Does this mean I got lucky and it'll arrive sooner than most peoples? I thought the long wait times experienced are because the parts are hard to get a hold of, but if it's already in production, shouldn't that mean that all the parts are being assembled and it won't take much longer to ship? Thanks.

Well, I was sort of hoping for the same thing.
But you could be stuck on "In Production" for weeks... It really depends on your luck. Some people come out of In Production less than a week, some are still waiting after 3 weeks, so you never really know.

Best bet is to call the Customer Care rep @ 1-800-847-4096 and ask about it

Hopefully you ordered things without delay, especially the coloured plates.

Sorry - I wish that was the case and you'd get your laptop soon. All orders go to Production once they're confirmed. I know, it seems strange that half of the process is complete as soon as you place your order....

Who know, though - maybe Dell has worked out some of their issues and new orders will be filled more quickly.

    Good luck!

I ordered on the 7th, ESD is 9/11. Just about everything I selected came with a "may delay your shipping date". I hate waiting, but I saved a ton of money with the package I got.

The same thing at Best Buy would cost about $1000 more, and then if you're like me (technically impaired), you have to pay to have someone like the Geek Squad put the extras in. No thank you.

It's not fun, but they have us because they know what we know. The "need it before college" excuse is lame, cause it's not like students don't have access to a computer. I want it right now, my Dell Dimension 4550 is junk now, but it still works enough to type this.

When I watch Big Brother tonight, I'll be tortured again by the Dell commercial for sure! lol

I don't expect anything until some of the people in front of me get theirs. For those who can't wait and reordered something else-thanks! : )

It also gives me time to save up to buy accessories for it before I get it, like a sweet speaker system for my sound card, sweet bluetooth headphones, the works. :D

The best advice I could give is not to call Dell but to call your local congressman and let them know what else they've been up to. The government has been very interested in Dell as of late....

Also, I'm an Apple guy, been since I was 5 with an AppleII+. I have three Apples. And if PokerStars ran on Apples, I'd be tempted to just buy one of their machines.

Why doesn't Dell have stores like Apple does in the mall and just a little cheap desk in the middle. That might say something right there.
