    Hi all,

I’ve had a Dell Precision M6300 for 3 months now. It has worked pretty well so far, except for the sound when I try to play a cd/dvd.

Whatever I play on the dvd drive, whether it is a movie or a music cd, it sounds awful. It sounds like scratched, the sound is interrupted and distortioned. I didn’t pay much attention to it at the begining since I don’t use the dvd player too much and whatever I play from the hard disk sounds just fine. So I thought it could be a driver issue that could be solved in the next update drivers. But this updates have not been of any help.

Now I’ve waited enough. Is anybody experiencing similar problems with the dvd player on their Dell laptop?

    Thanks for your replies,

    ATF

XP? Make sure that DMA is enabled on the IDE channel that the DVD-ROM is on.

Thanks liquidiq, that could be the problem, because whenever I play a dvd, the system just slows down so much... for example, I cannot multitask when I'm trying to burn a DVD, the screen simply freezes although it keeps burning the dvd until it finishes.

Anyway, hope someone can help, I've got 2 IDE primary channels.

One of them is set to "DMA if available" but it's current transfer mode is set to "PIO".
The other IDE channel is set "DMA if available" and it's current transfer mode is set to "DMA ultra Mode 5".

Now I'm trying to figure out if the dvd drive is on the first IDE channel (the one set to PIO)... and if it is, how can I turn it to DMA?

    Thanks

Might want to check the BIOS to see if there's an option in there for DMA on the DVD-ROM, I can't remember off hand. The other option you might try is uninstalling the DVD-ROM from Device Manager and having the system re-install it.
