I've posted this in other forums, without much response, but maybe someone here can help.

I'm trying to look at a problem with audio that seems very bizarre and appears to affect the internal sound on a large number of recent notebooks. I've got a simple test that just involves playing a file of 1kHz tone off the hard drive through the internal speakers. The OS can be either XP or Vista.

I'm particularly interested in getting results from anyone with a Dell D820 or a Dell Precision M90, as these are two machine types that don't show the problem, and it would be really useful to get confirmation that the machines are fine. I'd be interested in results from any other models as well. We have one Dell model already in the affected list.

If anyone is able to try, they could either contact me via a personal message here or by emailing to ho300 at itsound.demon.co.uk where I can tell them where to generate or download a suitable test file and give details of the test.
The download would be about 20 megs.
