Once again I will post this thread:
I can't play movies without them making distorted audio. All my drivers are solid, and I use powerdvd and media player. if you try to play it in media center it does not know there is a dvd in the drive. i have not installed any programs, but I have the storm.gen virus.

Please mods and notebook revie help me. I've been posting for a week... I live in USA and I watch movies from spain and france

What do you mean by distorted audio? How about if you hook up speakers, or when you play music?

Also, you can't get rid of that virus, can you?

Viruses aren't designed to screw with media functions - they don't care about them. Still, you need to get rid of it.

"Distortion" can mean many things, but if it's only happening when you're playing movies, it's likely your taxing your system resources to the point where your Available RAM is at a critical level and your system is using your HD as a virtual RAM device to make up for it. This is common in 32 bit systems with a lot of background processes running and less than 3gb of RAM. Remember, it's AVAILABLE RAM, not your overall physical RAM. Everytime you start a program or process, a certain amount of RAM is allocated for it. When that program/process is stopped, the system returns the RAM back, but not at the same amount - it always gives back less than it uses, so over time your available RAM gets less and less if you don't restart that much, or if you have a lot of processes running. Anything Norton will do it, even McAfee these days, AVG, any process hog. You can open your Task Manager and check and see how much RAM is being used by the processes running - add it up and if you've got less than a half-gig left, it's not much for running a movie. Media programs take up a lot of RAM to run, which is why you shouldn't have any programs running while watching a movie.

You should also consider turning off your wireless while watching any movie as it can also have an effect on sound and playback.

You can use a program called Memory Boost to determine if RAM resource issues are the problem. Extreme disk fragmentation will also cause the type of problem you're having.
