I just ordered a D820 and I'm trying to figure out if the problem I'm having is an isolated one or something that every D820 owner has.
I am getting a high frequency type buzzing noise which sounds like it's coming mostly from the upper left area of the laptop, not the speakers. It almost always is there when running windows. However, it doesn't seem to be present when first booting up the system (ie when you see the Dell screen). I just called Dell tech support and they are sending me a brand new system so I'm hoping that not all D820s have this problem. I'm hoping to hear from others who own a D820 with similar specs to see if ALL of them have this same problem.
Here are some relevant specs for my system in case that matters.
T7200 Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz
2gb RAM 667
100gb 7200rpm HD
NVIDIA Quadro 120s
Windows XP Home Edition
Bluetooth
Dell Factory Wireless Card (dual band)
**EDIT: Are there any D820 owners out there? Please anyone who owns a D820 let me know if it does or does not make the noise I am referring to, thanks!**

I have a d820 and it's very silent. Sounds like a fan problem or maybe the video card...
The new system should be silent unless you're very unlucky and it has the same problem. -
I have had my D820 for 8 months and have never heard any noise outside of the fan and hard drive.

I have a similar config and have not had any noise issues. It sounds like this is an isolated defect with your laptop; the new one should be fine.

I concur, my D820 is very quiet. I use it in class all the time and you can't hear anything. Your new one should be ok.
