Hello everyone,
I've had my new XPS M1530 for a little over a week and I've recently noticed a gap in between the barrel hinge and the rest of the computer. This is slightly worse on the right side and you can see the wires if you look closely.
Is this common? Should I send it back?
I can send pics if it would help.
Thanks for the help.

All M1530's are like this. DELL said it's for easy keyboard removal :S
-
I can confirm that on my XPS there are gaps at the hinges, worse on the right side as well. Doesn't really bother me though since it doesn't seem to effect the operation of the hinge, just a cosmetic thing.

bah! dell always seems to design things that is easily/quickly assembled, so they can make more.. thats how they got that shoddy build quality and kept the price down..
glad i saw this tread... i actually considered one of this... -

My m1330 is like that too. Big whoodeedoo!
It amuses me when people go out of their way to try find something wrong. -
Yup mines like this.............it adds character lol
-
Supposed to be like that.... Also makes me laugh when people go out their way to find faults, that aren't there.... lol
BTW, mines like that as well and guess what.... it don't bug me one bit. The hinges are rock solid as well as all other componants. -
if there's no gap it would be harder to open and close and then you could complain about that

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses.
My laptop looks pretty much the exact same as SilentException's, so I don't see the need to post photos. Thanks very much for posting photos of your laptop Silent!
For the record, I was not complaining, I just wanted to see if my laptop was typical or if my laptop has a problem with it. There's no harm in asking. -
Why in gods name would you send a computer back because there is a small gap in the hinge?
-
-
I think it looks better with the gaps
-
Yep, got the gaps. Figure it works to my advantage allowing additoinal air flow!

RushDawg asked a legitimate question, the uneven spacing of the hinges could have been a problem. In this case it wasn't and the first few replies explained that.
There's no need to ridicule people for asking a question. That's what forums are for. -
it's still quite a large amount of money to spend on a laptop... of course you would question things which you would not expect or curious about. I would too. For example a scratch on the lid is something you would not expect, i would send it back.

It is a trival thing your complaining about. I'm very picky and it doesn't bother me at all as I know that there has to be a gap for it to open and close properly. Besides that hinge is what helps set that apart from all the other notebooks and I love it. -
So the quote below is your idea of a firm tone? Where does it say this was previously discussed? Where does it firmly tell the original poster the search function could have been used to find this information?
-
My M1530 has that gap and I can see the wires as well ( if observed closely... )
-
think of that gap as Madonna smiling...before she got her teeth fixed that is....
-
Mine has equal gaps and the wires are hardly noticeable since it's black. You really have to look closely to even notice the wires.

I have to agree with Rhodan. If you spend over $2500 retail on a laptop, you expect the best quality. And any flaw is still a flaw.
