I have a fairly new m1330, w/ a LED screen, so it is a bit thinner than the non LED one. And I use a external 2.5" drive w/ enclosure for most of my backup/collections and such, like to keep my main drive clear of tons of files. Anywho. Was wondering if it would be 'dangerous' or 'not good' or will 'damage' if i somehow attached the drive to the back of the LED screen on the lid, twords the bottom of it. With something like Velcro. if it might be too heavy? and it's usb powered (the drive), i just don't like things sprawled out over a desk or even if im not at a table or desk, don't have to hold the drive separately, or worry about it falling down.
Basically... worried if it would be too heavy, if it would be a pain to get rid of a residue that it might leave if i don't like it, or if there is a special type of velcro (or other material) that i could use. Hope this makes sense! Thanks.

Lid is too too weak to support anything IMO.

I have a buddy that stuck an external wifi antenna to the lid of his laptop with velcro. I don't think the velcro would have come off very easily without leaving marks or stains. And a hard drive would be a lot heavier...

I have already partitioned my main drive, but for certain data, i use to transfer between systems and sync to the external drive, i like to keep separate on an external. Yea, that's what im worrying about is if it's too heavy, that somehow it would damage the screen somehow? it would be attached as close tot he hinge as possible if i was going to do it. and this way, could attach and more around easier w/ the drive, w/o having to carry something thta flopping off a cable and need an extra hand do deal w/.

I would imagine if you were carrying the laptop in a bag with the external hd attached to the lid that you would run a big risk, even if it could carry the weight, of crushing the screen down on the keyboard and causing screen scratches and the like. Not sure though, if your plan is to carry it around (last post seemed to indicate it).

I used a 2.5" External drive with my m1330 as well and I don't think there would be any problems attaching it to the screen while keeping the following in mind.

    1) If you plan to use velcro, you'll need the self-sticking kind which WILL leave marks, or possibly ruin your lid if you ever try to remove it.

    2) I would NEVER leave it attached to your lid while traveling (as others suggested) as it will put uneven pressure on the screen and will cause damage.

    3) Placed low enough on the screen, it should not cause the screen to tilt back further because of the weight.

Having said that, I personally wouldn't do it because there will come a point in time where you'll want to sell your laptop, and not everyone will want to buy one with velcro strips/ruined paint.

The LED screen is particularly thin and is more flexible/bendy than the regualr screen. There is no way I would secure a HDD to it.
