It's $180 to upgrade. Unfortunately it's still not an option for the E1505. Maybe tomorrow heh.

I actually think the x1400 is a good option for the E1705. It's great for those who want to play games but dont want to spend the extra $120 for the 7800 go.

The 7800 seems to be short in supply anyway, at the moment. According to Dells US Online Store, ordering a 7800 delays shipping by 16 days, while the X1400 delays shipment by 5 days. European Dell Online Stores don't even list the X1400 as as option, while the 7800 also delays shipment by 3-4 weeks.

    Strange....

they also increase prices on configurations with components in short supply, this X1400 availability could well be because nVidia is having problems fulfilling enough supply so Dell has turned to ATI for help in keeping up.

I want the E1505/Inspiron6400 with a dedicated card, but $179 bucks to upgrade to the x1400 is out of my budget cause I dont play that much but I dont want a ****-card like GMA950 neither...
does anyone know if they maybe offer a x1400 128meg or the x300, which i guess they're cheaper

Are you using the coupons here:

    http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp

That could bring the price down a little bit. I am not sure...but fatwallet usually has a 3% off or something like that too. :)

By the way...new coupons should be released tomorrow. If you don't mind waiting to see them. :)

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting this. I am thrilled because this will get my E1705 shipped sooner. What would be the downside of choosing the Ati x1400 over the 7800 Go?

Basically less graphics performance. The X1400 is the equivalent of a Go 7400 I think, roughly.

Yeah, it is. The X1400 will be better in games than the Go7400 - the memory bus is doubled from 64-bit on the Go7400 to 128-bit on the X1400, big difference. They get similar 3DMarks, but the X1400 will pull ahead in gaming, especially ones like FEAR.

If you do plan on getting this notebook for gaming, I suggest getting the 7800 go if you can afford it. It's quite a bit better. After using one of the larger coupons it's really not $300. It's more like $200... and considering the extra performance, that isn't a bad price.

The 7800 is severly back-ordered. I think they took it off to negagate delays. I think it will come back once they get the chips back in supply.

Yeah, Chaz wrote that guide, it is very nice. It is also a link in the gaming hardware software forum.
