My XPS M1330 keeps shutting off (with LED on) when playing games like Battlefield 1942 (DC Mod), C&C Generals...etc
First I thought it may be the heatsink problem, but as today San Francisco is freezing and the screen still shut off, I think I can exclude the overheating thing.
So I contacted Dell for a replacement. First, I chat online and the rep. was going to help me. THEN THE PROBLEM CAME. What is on my packing slip was a T7250, however, I called a service call to change it to T7300, the replacement system should also be T7300, right?
Then the rep. said he/she couldn't do that and his/her attitude was not that polite anymore. Even worse, I saw the rep. typing something "BIOS recognizes 4GB of ram but not Windows Vista 32-bit." WTF?! So I ended the session.
After that, I called the XPS tech support...That Dell rep. had a VERY heavy accent that I couldn't understand...well, that's not the point though. The point was that he said NO REPLACEMENT OF THE WHOLE SYSTEM BUT ONLY THE PARTS. No way! I hanged up before we had a big argument.
Ok, I picked up my phone again to call customer support, that lady also said she couldn't make any changes and transferred me back to XPS department.
This time, I asked the XPS guy to talk to his supervisor and we came to the point that he would talk about my issue to the customer care department. OK, times up! The customer service is closed! I have to deal with Dell tomorrow.
So now the thing is, besides the T7300, I am also asking for the fringerprint reader because when my M1210 was replaced, the rep. didn't say a M1330 would be used and thus I missed tge time asking for it...Besides those, what could I possibly get? I NEED YOU GUYS HELP! m(_ _)m

Wait, am I getting this right? They exchanged your M1210 for a M1330 gratis and you are asking for a fingerprint reader because you thought that was wrong? lol shake your head.
Next, they can only do a reorder of exactly what is listed on your system. If they say its a 7250 u might check your specs through your online dell account. It shows the exact configuration of your system.
They, can only reorder a new replacement by that configuration. -
it seems dell opted out T7300 and replaced with T7250 option (as intel puts T7500 with same price as T7300)
-
His concern is half the cache of the T7300 despite having the same frequency.
-
For the CPU thing, as I said, the packing slip was T7250, while I had a service call to change it to T7300. Now the point is, I want the NEXT replacement system got installed T7300 directly but not make me to call Dell again then a technician came to install it, as I am VERY busy. -
Dell did give you a nice upgrade on LED I see. GL anyways.
-
Update: I just finished the call...The senior guy said since my computer is a NEW one, the next replacement can ONLY be a refurbished one...oh well...
For the CPU and fringerprint reader thing, he said he will "send request" to the refurb department...oh well...
Should I be REALLY curious about whether it's new or refurb? -
I would worry about what option of LCD screen you are getting.
Hope things work out for ya. -
Achilles, so are you trying to say that my current LED screen may be replaced by the normal one?
btw, Thanks. -
Yes, it may-Dell can easily justify it.
I don't think M1210 had screen upgrade, and Dell's policy on replacement systems are equal or better of original system-M1210 in your case.
That was why I was keep mentioning about the LED. Would you rather have LED or fingerprint reader?
Did you ask if there was a way if they could add the fingerprint reader to your current M1330? Palmrest definately needs to be replaced in this route, but I think it's better bet to keep the LED option. -
Ummm...of course I rather have a better screen.
But now the problem is overheating...so should I call the tech. support to ask for changing of motherboard? (Not the heatsink problem)
For fingerprint reader, I called Dell before and it said it didn't have parts right now to do anything. -
I guess you can go either ways.
Take the replacement, see if you get what you want, if not, just return the replacement,
OR
Ask tech to replace the parts and see what happens.
Make sure to look what the field tech does to your system. Many don't treat it like if it's their own when they are supposed to. -
Yea, I am doing the first one, while I am also preparing to do the second one.
Actually, would there be anything happen IF I crossover the parts from two computers? -
I have replaced parts that were exact same spec when I got my system replaced, but I'm not sure what would happen if let's say you replace the LED w/ LCD on replacement unit - it wouldn't be a great idea IMO, since they would have different parts under each service tags, and may catch up with you.
-
Actually neither I think it will be a good thing to do. Just because the question came into my mind, haha.
Anyway, I'm now calling the XPS service to get the motherboard changed first. -
UPDATED:
Still, I am not happy with a refurb. system. So I called XPS support AGAIN, then the nice guy told me that "No, it should be a NEW system because it's still in 21-day period." So he cancelled the previous refurb. case, set up a new-and-exactly-the-same replacement (T7250) and told me to call them again for getting the T7300 one I get the replacement system.
I think I'll just give up the fringerprint reader thing, as my primary concern is the malfunctioning. Also, having a new one just sounds better to me.
flamenko, you were right. I am sorry about not reading what you wrote carefully. m(_ _)m
Argh! I need a replacement!...and please give me advices
