Ok so try to make this long story short:
Palmrest started pitting, had it replaced (no questions asked by the XPS Rep, great experiance!).
Tech came to replace it, scratched the lid to my laptop. Again had it replaced, talked to a awesome XPS agent, that was very sympathetic, and I felt like he "had my back".
Same tech came, replaced it, looks like he did it before, but was pretty careless. He was nice guy, but there was just little things that irked me. Like trying to take a screw driver to the bezel to pry it off. I ended up stopping him, and used a thin Popsicle stick. Then when he put it all back together, he tried to leave but the bezel on the right hand side was not sitting flush. Why? Because he forgot 2 screws that holds the screen onto the lid. Finally found the screws and fixed it.
So yesterday, I tried to use the webcam, not that I ever use it, but just wanted to check it out. Windows could not find it, although all drivers are installed. Then I remember looking at the service manual, that the webcam/mic array is attached to the lid. I pry off just the top of the bezel and to my "not" surprise, guess what the tech forgot to take off the old lid? Yeah, the camera/mic array.
Start another XPS chat session (which so far has been pretty damn good), but this time the Tech was not customer service oriented. Pretty rude, and just did not seem like he wanted to help. I explained to him what was going on, and that I did not want the tech to replace this part. That I know I can do it myself. Would take me maybe 5 minutes to do it. His first response was that was impossible, that a they HAD to send out a tech. My response? "Ok, no problem, could you give me the phone # for a CSR?". As soon as I said that, he asked "Why"? I explained, that I felt to get my point across that I would need to talk to someone on the phone. Anyways, about 5 more minutes of back and forth, he finally decided to let me do it. Oh, and there was a few minutes of arguing because he first tried to send me the bezel, then I got the "Oh yeah, I can just send you the camera/mic array". Eh whatever, end result should be the same.
So today I get the "part" (still, huge plus to the XPS service, pretty amazing how fast they get these parts out). But I get two packages. Curious, I open them. One has a cable in it (which is the came that connects from the MoBo to the Camera), hmmm not needed, andI did tell the tech that I the cable was still there. Well in the other package, was the Camera! Great! And a Return Packaging slip.... Ok, so although I told the tech my camera is missing, he expects me to return what? Air? But here is the kicker for me, I also told the tech that, because he took my lid with the camera attached to it, I also would not have the screws to attach it to the lid and would need those. Guess what? No screws either....
This is just so damn frustrating, I have owned this laptop for about 2 months. What just irritates me, is that my company is always buying new Dell products (per my recommendations), and I was just about to purchase a M1330 for my wife.
I was even thinking about selling my current M1530 (which is making this webcam issue even more irritating, how can I sell a laptop missing parts like that?), and buying another one with a higher resolution screen (I only got WXGA, but now that I am going alot of my work from home, I need more real estate for Excel). Maybe I will just tell Dell to ship me a LED screen and I will install it myself....
Anyways, sorry for this being long, just frustrated.

That sucks, man.
Keep at them until it is perfect. If you get a bad rep when doing a chat, close the window, and start over again.
I have called for my replacement units. I always get great service. Next time, use the phone and see if that works for you.
Good luck. -
Yeah I am going to use the phone tomorrow. It is just so nice to be able to lounge, watch some NFL network, and take care of the problem on chat.
But yeah, tomorrow I will be calling. -
yeah def. keep at 'em for sure....you paid for your laptop and you deserve to have it perfect...
Argg need to vent, advice (XPS M1530).
