Headphone noise sucks. Also, my Ctrl key popped off this morning. Time to call Dell. :(

Where's the option for "Loved most of it, but the few faults were deal breakers?"

Good idea for the poll but I'm not sure about the second option. I think there would be a decent number of people who don't either love or dislike their 1520, and would find themselves in the middle but upgrading parts seems too specific.

Personally, I like it and I'm happy with my decision. I don't care for the headphone noise but it's not really that bad and I have an external sound card that I use anyways. Overall it's a great bargain...you can't expect perfection for the price I paid and the benefits definitely outweigh the few drawbacks.

for me..my wireless sucks..with the dell wireless adapter..it cuts in and out..what used to be 5 bars on my inspiron 6000 is now 2 bars on the 1520.

kinda wimped out on a deal too...paid 1318 for this..tax in...but now i realize i could have upgraded both the wireless and the video card from the intel to a 128 MB card and still paid less..but whatever..it would have saved me 10 bucks.

I like it for the most part, screen is a tad grainy, that headphone noise is really annoying.
Also I'm not happy about not having the best, and when I say that I refer to the Gddr2 instead of the Gddr3.
So I might send back and get the Gs1 after all.
Plus it is a little bulky and heavy.
Really good for the price though.
And to be honest I don't even play much games on the computer and prob don't need the addional graphics boost, but I still wants it!

I actually sent my 1520 back and decided to go for the M1330. I had, well actually still have, an Inspiron 8200. Felt it was time for an upgrade and as soon as the 1520 came out, I was ready to go. Upon receiving mine, the CPU high pitched squeal really bothered me. I'm also able to hear things others can't, so it may not bother everyone. This was almost a blessing in disguise for me though. The 1520 is quite hefty. If you don't mind carrying around a little extra weight or are using it as a desktop replacement, then it makes total sense. I realized I need a smaller, lighter notebook and opted for the M1330. Luckily, Dell allowed me to return the 1520 and even paid for the return shipping as they've acknowledged the high pitched squeal. They even offered me $100 if I had a Dell technician replace the motherboard. You'd think they'd just start using the correct motherboards when they build these 1520s right now! Who knows...

The only thing that concerns me is that the hinges make a bit of noise when I start to move them. I'm probably slightly paranoid about that, too, since one of my really old laptops had hinge problems. But everything else has been excellent. The shiny covering on the keys and palmrests hasn't come off at all, either - something I was concerned might happen like it did on my HP mouse. Granted, it's still early, but so far 100% on that.

There is a slight audio noise. It's kind of like the noise some powerstrips make, but most of the time it isn't noticeable - a minor flaw IMO.

And performance has been excellent. Of course, I was expecting that.

Rating: Reliability: 9/10 (but this can't really be judged until a few years out)
    Performance: 10/10
    Value: 10/10
