I wouldn't say I'm "anal" about my XPS 1530, just extremely careful w/it. As, it is my very first lappy, thus I take great care w/it! No, food on it or near it. And drinks are far and away. Since, I somewhat of a "clutz" lol ;) :)

I also make sure that it is kept clean & all that fun stuff!!!

I treat XPS like I do my Corvette... NEVER any dirt or dust on it and it gets wiped down, cleaned, & covered at the end of everyday. At home, I use a another keyboard and mouse when I can to save on wear and tear. AND I don't let anybody touch my notebook.... not even my wife. She gets the desktop. I take care of all my stuff (notebook, cameras, TV's). Yep, I'm fanatical about the things I like and I don't give a HOOT if anyone thinks I'm nuts or not. :p

It's nice to know that there are others who take pride in what they have. I know that a laptop is not as important as a son or a daughter or any loved one. However, I do believe that there is a correlation between how one treats the things that they own and how they treat others. I am not rich by monetary standards, but I value everything that I do have. Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts.

After the initial week or two of babying, I start *using* my stuff and stop treating it like a baby. I actually get more satisfaction out of making the most use of my tools without acting all anal and stressed out about minor things. I find that the less anal I am about things after the initial period, the more I am able to enjoy myself using the equipment.

Though I did order a keyboard protector for those times when I might want to eat with greasy hand and use the laptop as well. Oily keyboard is just too icky for me.

I wouldn't say "anal" but I'm very very very careful when it comes to my laptop. It's borderline obsessive-compulsive lol. I always wash my hands before using my laptop. I never eat or keep food near my laptop. When I drink while using my laptop, I make sure I'm some few feet away from it and I put my glass/bottle away from my desk, where my laptop is.

I also wipe my laptop with my microfiber cloth every 2-3 days or whenever I notice or feel dust on the lid. I wipe the outsides and the insides, including the keyboard and touchpad. I only wipe the screen when I notice any dirt or dust on it, and I wipe it very carefully and gently.

My laptop is usually just sitting at my desk, but whenever I bring it out, I make sure the tabletop I will put my laptop on is squeaky clean.

One time, my uncle borrowed my laptop. He coughed. COUGHED. He coughed in front of my laptop. He was also smoking while using my laptop (!). Now I don't know if any of his phlegm got stuck to my screen, but I was freaked out! Of course I couldn't do anything about it and just did my duty of wiping my laptop clean. Ugh.

don't know if its my imagination or not, but it seems that whenever i'm w/other folks, i notice that they are not
so 'careful' around my awesome red 1530!

i paid a fair price for this Gem and I appreciate
its inner workings far more than most of my social network.

btw, this color red is great--no fingerprints at all!
