I'm purchasing a Dell E1505 notebook with 2gb. I was questioning whether anyone thinks the warranties are worth it? Background- they offer free a 1yr lmtd warranty where if the laptop has something wrong for a year you have to send it back to fix it.
Or 1yr ltd warranty with in-home service and calls and parts for $70 for 1 year . It can go all the way up to 4years of service for $340 and you get $75 Dell dollars.
And, they also offer Accidental Damage which includes if something should drop on the laptop , you drop it, or theft. It's $119 a year.
You cant buy 1 year of 1 and 3 or 4 of another for example They must be =.
ie... 1yr in home service and 1yr accidental damage for a total of $189
My situation: for at home use, light gaming for kids 6,10 or 12 only at the desk (hopefully). emails, pictures, travel with me to another room, travel in car occasionally
Would it be worth it or not? Thank you

IMO, if you have kids, get the accidental warranty. For like 10 years.

That will be a decision that you'll have to decide based on how you feel about the possibilities of the laptop getting damaged. If younger children will be using it quite a bit then you might wanna think about the accidental coverage. I never upgrade to the in-home service myself since outside of maybe like the motherboard Dell will usually let the end user replace the part themselves and they just send out the new one. That would pertain mostly to someone used to working with computers though. My suggestion to you would be to base the warranty on how long you plan on keeping the laptop and how long you can go without the laptop in case you need to send it in for repair.

If you buy a Dell, you need any kind of warranty you can get. The quality of Dell machines are not that good.

^ second this. mine fell apart at 1.001 years, right after warranty. it was almost as if it was timed.
HP in the mail, you want a dell its all yours -
I have purchased warranties from dell before. My answer is a big fat NO!!! If i were you, i just get the mail in instead of the at home service. You are aware that the technicians they sent out to your house to fix your computer is 3rd party right? And that technicians can be anyone but dell technicians. However, the mail in service goes directly to Texas where dell facilities are. If you do get warranty, just remember, its not covered for every accidents/mistakes. You could be just wasting more money. Up to you. If you asked my opinion, i do not think it's wise for any 6, 10 or 12 years old around any laptop. Consider a desktop.

My M1210 is problematic in 3 months. They couldn't find out what's wrong. So they built a new machine for me.
I would get the longest warranty possible. -
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
Dont forget to get an extra year free, see my sig

If I had to send the computer to Dell, I would have lost at least 3 days of productivity. I could one day for the computer to get there, one day for fixing and one day to get back. And I think that's an optimistic estimate. -
All business notebooks usually come with 3 years warranty, most makers do this standard these days. And for home computers to have this I think is great
But comments stating "If you buy a Dell, you need any kind of warranty you can get. The quality of Dell machines are not that good."
Well that is rubbish, not true, and really not a comment worth taking notice of, but seems to been thrown around alot by people here who simply want to bash Dell for no other reason than to be spiteful, most likely bored.
You buy exteneded warranties if you have a tendancy to carry it around alot and it may get knocked about, or simply for peice of mind. NOT because they are poor quality. -
I always get accidental coverage you never know when you might drop coffe or soda into it. -
It depends and it can happen with anything. My kid was using headphones when the other came, tripped on the wire, and brought the whole laptop down and my other kid smashing to the ground, it was pretty funny...he wasn't hurt.
Are the Dell warranties worth it?
