On my (soon to not be my) 1536 I get really loud electrical squeals, kinda like interference that you would get on a phone. And I can usually hear it from across the room.

    Any ideas?
    - Im pro hammer and gasoline btw :D

Is it coming from the machine itself... or the power brick? If it's coming from the power brick, you can just replace that and everything should be fine. If it's coming from the machine itself, it's probably "CPU whine" and there's not that much you can do. I've heard that simply installing RMClock or putting the machine in full-power mode (under Vista) can solve the problem, but I never actually fixed it on my D830.

It shouldn't be audible across a room though (unless it's a really quiet one); I'd say if you call Dell, you may have a shot at getting it fixed under warranty...

    don't use the hammer.......

You want something much bigger, like a paving slab.

What do you mean squealing - like an old fashioned modem?

I mean high pitched whining (high frequency like 10k Hz id estimated) and my room has a pc with 4 120mm fans, a 140, stock cpu cooler with the Q6600 @ 3.4 Ghz, so not that quiet.

And its coming from around the WiFi/Ram/HDD area.

Hmmm, just looked at the specs for the 1536 and the processor is kinda near that area (ish). Dunno. I recommend again that paving slab.

I wonder what would happen if I replaced all the parts inside with crappy cardboard cutouts with smiley faces and sharpie and then I sent it in......

On a more serious matter.....I really don't think that its the processor (or if it is it is quiet electrical squealing. What I'm talking about is loud high pitched electrical squealing.

Not sure if we're having the same problem or not, but my speakers and headphones emit an electrical sounding noise as well. Not a constant pitch, but a little bit wavering. It only happens sometimes, and only when using the AC adaptor. If I remove the computer from the electricity and let it run on battery, the noise stops immediately. I've tried it in several different locations, so it's not just a problem in my house.

I got a replacement AC brick from Dell, and the problem continues. I just don't feel like sitting on the phone with them for an hour to resolve this.
