I gather that the M1530 comes with a grainy Samsung/SEC screen or with beautiful LG screen.
But I can't recall reading about (or find) anyone with a 1440x900 m1530 that is grainy.
It seems to me that there have been a a lot of WSXGA+ (1680x1050)... but maybe more people have this.
Does anyone out there have a WXGA+ (1440x900) M1530 that is grainy?
Thanks

It's not grainy...mine is a samsung...it's too bright tho? although everyone else is like samsung screens are dull and grainy.
-
theres no such thing as too bright
-
I ordered another system on the fifth, its coming on the 9th...scary. Hope its not a refurb.
-
I was wondering the same thing about the 1440x900. I ordered mine on Jan. 3 and it shipped on Jan.7th - I should be getting it tomorrow so I guess I'll be finding out soon.
-
Guys, If you don't like it. call and have it replaced at once. don't sleep on it and don't loose sleep over it.
the diffrence is huge. Trust me. been there Done that. -
I agree with you dvmxps1530. Replace it asap and don't bother yourself. Afterall, you did pay for it...
-
Ha mine shipped on the 7th as well.. Should be arriving sometime tomorrow! I also got the 1440x900, I'll let you know how it turns out. I hope I don't have to mess around with returns.. but I guess I won't hesitate to do it after I laid down that large chunk of change.

If you have a grainy screen... or course you can call Dell to work on replacing it. Search the other threads and read all about it.
The point of this thread is to find out if an M1530 WXGA+ owners have the grainy screen.
So far... we have Acorn with a good looking Samsung.
Does anyone out there have a WXGA+ (1440x900) M1530 that is grainy? Or is your's good?Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
My statement might have been a little off-topic, sorry. However, I am getting my xps m1530 with a wxga+ screen tomorrow, so i'll definitely tell you then if it's good or grainy! hopefully its a good one.

I've had mine for one day, and the screen is bright, pretty uniformly lit and isn't grainy. I think it's an LG. The machine has another problem though (wobbly base) so Dell is sending me a replacement. I'm crossing my fingers for another good screen.

I have the 1440x900 and it is not grainy. Unfortunately I can't tell what kind it is. When I look at the hardware properties on it, it says geneic PNP monitor or somethng along those lines.
-
You need to check hardware ID.
Then google it to find what brand it is. -
If your replacement laptop has a lesser display, you might consider swapping the display with the laptop you are going to send back.
I don't know how easy/difficult it would be for you... but check out this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=204586
merlin_72032 did a swap and it worked out well. I think there is a link to instructions within that thread... and I bet merlin_72032 can give more details to give you confidence to do it.
But maybe you'll get another good one!
Let us know what you get! -
Can you find your screen's hardware id?
I don't have my M1530 yet... but I gather that you can find it like this:
Computer-->Properties-->Device Manager-->Monitors-->Generic PnP
Monitor-->Properties
Let us know what you find!Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -

So you imply that the brightness is pretty much the same, the font is a little smaller? If it is in that case, I may stick with WXGA because I don't really do photo editing, and I don't have a good eyes. -
I guess you'd be paying for an upgrade this time? Well... I don't know if they just send it and expect you to do the upgrade.... but I guess you're a pro now! -
Well, I look at the deal right now. I don't think it worths to return and reorder for just a screen upgrade. I would not be a ble to get what the deal I had.
Well, let put it this way. I have a lot of toys to play with at my work. This is the reason why I can compare different brand of machines from laptop, workstation, and server. I just love to play with them. Personally, I don't have WXGA+ and higher resolution laptop to play with. We got only the one with native resolution here. -
anyone know how to get your screen hardware ID in Ubuntu?

I went with the 1440x900 because I do a little design and editing but also a lot of work with text so it's a compromise between the wsxga and wxga. Some of the text, even on this site is really small on my screen. I have perfect vision but don't want to strain my eyes looking at text as much as I do. Sometimes 4+ hours in a row. I figured I'd be pushing it going even higher. I bet the wxga will be fine for pretty much any application which the exception of major photo editing. -

Thank you for the information. I might well stick with what I got. I see you point what are you trying to say, and I toltally agree with your opinion. Well, my 21 days is almost up anyway. I guess I will live with my XPS for a long time. -
ionymous, I went there and there is some called generic backlight device. i clicked on this and all it says is it's a laptop panel, all other information says it's "Unknown"
