My Vostro 1700 is on it's way, yippee. :) I was wondering if current Vostro owners have received their OS and Drivers CD's with the system or do you have to make a DVD from the disk image?

That's great to hear Pixelot. I was worried because I was looking at my invoice order and it said something about a restore image, hence that's why I asked.

It will have a 10GB "Recovery Partition" with the Dell factory image, which you can choose to restore to. But you will also receive just the straight OS disc.

And it is a CD not a DVD - that's because it's only the OS that you have (eg Vista Business 32 bit) not all the variations like a retail Vista DVD.
    Doesn't require activation.

    It's a 'Dell-ified' OS disc.

You may also request another set of re-installation CD on their website at no charge. They will send you the OS and driver with the current revisions. And very often, they include some of the optional software CD that you did not order with your system. :D

Well, mine may have 'Dell-ified', but it didn't have any drivers or bloatware on it; I had to install all the drivers and Dell stuff myself.

Well I just got my Vostro 1500 today. So far very happy with it and windows vista. It is my first laptop as well. Prior to this I had owned 2 dell desktops, and 2 desktops that I built myself.

I did not receive my vista disc. I got the drivers, roxio, and ms works discs, but no OS. I put in a request for the backups so hopefully those will come sometime soon. I only went with the 80 gig HDD because I have a 320 that I am upgrading it to, but obviously I can't do this without my disc

Ha. I once put in a request for the OS disc because I hadn't received one with that notebook, but they sent me not only XP Pro, which was the OS on the notebook, but also XP MCE!

So now I have a copy of MCE lying around.

I think you guys should really wait. The Vista SP1 disk will be available soon, and so as the XP SP3.
