Yea ill probably do that.... its crazy loud

Check in BIOS settings for HDD volume. You can set it to loud or quiet
-
The bios will quiet down the noise and will also lower the speed a little at the same time,i would ask for a replacement instead.

Hey kabs,
I was wondering if I was in the same boat as you with my M1210. I opted to delay my shipment time from Dell for a 7200 RPM HDD. Looking at my Device Manager, it seems to be an Hitatchi. Is yours also the same?
Mine, when undergoing somewhat intensive tasks does make somewhat noticable clicking noises, but I'm not sure how normal this is in a laptop as this would be my first. My home PC is a Seagate SATA, which is grotesquely loud in comparison. I can be found in a lot of "Quiet Rooms" for studying around campus, so when the laptop HDD is roaring (ie. during startup), it's definitely audible. This is in addition to the fan going at it. Though in more crowded areas, this isn't a problem, it can sound like a jet engine taking off in rooms like these.
Are All XPS 1210's HDD so loud?
