Kinda old news from 9/4 ... but

This is was pretty shocking to me, especially since this forum regularly has 300 people in it.. while the Apple on has about 30-50...

with back to school being the way it was and with Dell so backlogged and delayed, i'm not surprised one bit. on top of that, when apple offers a free ipod nano with purchase of a MB or MBP, that is an even bigger incentive for a lot of people.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple sells more notebooks in Q3 too. Apple has a much nicer retail experience compared to Dell, and Apple has better marketing.

    What is retro about that?

Well, most people buy Mac's for OSX, not how it looks. Plus, with the price tag of the Macbook being pretty low(Under $1k refurb, and a refurb is pretty much a brand new Macbook with a brown box instead of a coloured one. I bought one for a cousin, if I didn't buy it I wouldn't of known it was even a refurb).

One of the primary reasons people buy a Macbook over a PC is that they're easier to learn to use and more idiot proof in terms of having Windows issues. OSX is really the only reason to get a Macbook because they're pretty expensive. I personally wouldn't own anything less than a MPB however because the specs on the Macbook aren't that great.

the funny thing is that since MB and MBPs now use Intel components, a normal "windows" based machine could install and run OSX. granted, it takes a bit of work, but it has been done successfully by many.
