I currently have an XPS M1530 and the Alps touchpad mouse keeps freezing about once every 10 minutes.
The freezing will not stop until I take my finger off the touchpad for about 2 seconds.

This is actually my second XPS 1530 in the past 3 weeks. My first 1530 had the same problem and yesterday I sent it back under the 21 day warranty return policy. Dell sent me this replacement unit a couple of days ago and it has the exact same problem.

I have done everything possible to fix both machines, spending probably 8 hours on the phone with Tech Support, reinstalling the touchpad and numerous other drivers, and reinstalling the operating system on both machines. I have tried about 10 different Alps and Synaptics drivers and none of them stop the freezing.

IMO, the XPS M1530 has somekind of bug/flaw with the Alps Touchpad.

I am now considering the Studio 1555 because it has the Synaptics touchpad. I can still return this second unit under the 21 day warranty. I have owned Dell Inspiron's for about the past 15 years and I never had a problem with its Synaptics touchpads.
I am not considering the Inspiron as a replacement because of its max 5400rpm drive.

Has anyone experienced any problems with the 1555 touchpad mouse freezing?

I don't have the Studio 1555 but my 1535 has the exact problem you describe. As did my 1536.

The 1535 and 1536 come with Alps touchpads.
I had originally ruled out the Studio "15" because I thought it came with the Alps touchpad.
But today I just found out the 1555 comes with the Synaptics touchpad.

My 1535 has an Alps touchpad, and that happens to me as well.

Since no one with a 1555 has responded with a bad touchpad I went ahead and ordered a 1555.

I also called Customer Care and obtained a case number and authorization to return my faulty XPS M1530 for a full refund.
I really like my 1530, except for the touchpad problem.
Hopefully the 1555 will be as good.

The video card should be better than the 256mb Nvidia 8600M GT on my XPS. But I am really going to miss the 128G SSD that comes on the XPS.
