Hey everyone...
I have a dell 1520 with the t7300 2.0ghz. I was thinking of purchasing faster processor...
The t7600 or the t7800... 2.4 ghz or 2.6ghz. Has anyone swapped out their own processor? Is is soldered in?
Thanks!

Not soldered on, swapped the CPUs in my two Inspiron 1520's (cause I wanted the more powerful CPU with the faster video card and higher res screen).
Here's the service manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1520/en/sm/index.htm -
T7600 is a Socket M, so not compatible.
Checkout Socket P C2Ds, such as the T7800, or the T8300/T9300 are better upgrades. -
Indeed; T7600 (2.33 GHz) won't work. T7700 (2.4), T7800 (2.6), T9300 (2.5) and T9500 (2.6) will, as well as at least most of T8xxx series, although those have less L2 cache than the T7300. T8300 (2.4, 3 MB L2) should still be a good upgrade though, but I'd go with the T7800 above the T8300 as it has both a higher clockrate and more L2 cache.
I haven't personally upgraded - considered it, but haven't wanted to spend the $$$ yet. -

Does anyone know if the t9300 2.5ghz will work in our Dell 1520s? Meaning, will the mother board recognize the cpu? Do we have to upgrade the firmware?

It will work. I remember the T8300 being offered as an option with the Inspiron 1520.
Update to the latest BIOS version, which should provide support for Penryns as well.
