Just wondering if anyone's tried this and if so what the results are. There's a few unknowns as to how it would work - namely heat and BIOS support - and I figured it would be best to ask while these models are still common. Since I'm considering trying this at some point (probably after the extended warranty is expired) but wouldn't bother if someone has tried it and it did not work.

Even with the T7500 the 1520 runs rather hot...so I know this is pushing it. But the X9000 is a die-shrink, and has a higher max supported temperature (105 instead of 100), so I was thinking it just might work. Provided the BIOS supports it - A05 or a BIOS near that one included "support for newer Intel processors", obviously meaning Penryn but not specifically mentioning Penryn, let alone the exact processors.

There's always the T9500...but why stick with it if the X9000 works? :D
