I bought my E1705 in the summer before school. By spending a few hours talking to customer service i was able to get a free backpack to carry around my laptop. Has anyone tried and/or do you think it is worth it to try to and talk customer service into sending me an upgrade to Vista?

    Thanks for the advice.

The Vista upgrade program is offered by Microsoft, rather then Dell(or whatever company a notebook is from), and the 'Free Vista Upgrade' is just another selling point for brands. Perhaps you can negotiate some sort of deal, but I wouldn't be optimistic.

I'm sorry, but I haven't heard of a single person who has managed to sneak in under that deadline.

I don't think so because you need to scan or mail your receipet. Atleast with HP you need to and it's probably like that with the other brands.

The upgrade is all microsoft and is directly tied to the date your XP COA was issued. I bought a refurb in the outlet, and prior to the order was told several times that I would be eligible, and had them send me emails confiming this I ordered on OCT 26'th, so naturally my COA was issued before that date. Long story short, I tried to register, and was denied, after multiple phone calls, they did an exchange with my system for one that was issued after the program started. Vista isnt going to be a necessity for quite some time, just buy an upgrade or OEM.

I dont really need Vista, I just like how it looks but I am definitely not going to spend money to get it. I was just hoping i could finagle my way into getting a free one, ah well.

Vista transformation pack is nice to look at; but it has performance and some other issues. So read few reviews before jumping in
