You have to remember that the 1000 is basically a Inspiron 1501 in all black. It's design isn't shared with the rest of the vostro or "new" Inspiron lineup. Also, business customers prefer darker, more subdued colors on their notebooks to have a more professional look.

This should be in another forum.

Anyways, I think the Vostro series looks good. It's supposed to be a business laptop so it isn't going to have all the bells n' whistles.

I have a dell 1505 (its the same laptop but black). I must say that its design is superior to the current linup. Its been around and stood the test of time. I think its a solidly built frame and nicely looking laptop. However, i dont like the components they put inside the 1000. The 1505 with a c2d would be much nicer in my opinion.

if you ask me the HP laptops are seriously nice.

I am surry I did not get a HP instead of the DELL.

Heck I even find the Inspiron 1501 ugly aswell.
HP lappys has these cool blue neon lights and stuff.
    DELL has none.

I only hope people don't laugh at my Vostro 1000.
But I still got a Athlon X2 and 2GB ram and 120GB HDD and Vista Ultimate.
ANd it works perfect. SO I guess I can't really complain all that much.

I still love how the HP looks doh.

I think I'm the only one in the world that utterly despises HP's designs.

I'm perfectly content with all the Vostro models Dell makes. While they may be a little bulkier than the competition, they are still well built and FEEL like quality.

Every HP i've touched with those awful plastic chassis's make me cringe...

Nope... I utterly despise HP's designs too. (ok, actually just the HP Pavilion line... but I'm guessing that's what the OP is talking about.) All the glossy plastic on the HP Pavilions makes me want to puke.

However, the Vostro 1000 isn't up to the other Vostros in terms of build materials. It's just a black version of the older Inspiron 1501. Still, I think it's reasonable considering the low price.

Anyway, the Vostros are marketed as business machines... that's why they don't have flashy looks with stupid flashing lights and crap.

hey, make that 3 of us!! I can't STAND any hp notebooks (well, the pavillions at least)

My vostro 1400 is just like an inspiron 1420, just better (usb ports and power on SIDE not BACK) oh, and an option of XP.

I havn't seen the Vostro, but there is no way it can be more ugly than the Dell M1730, which must be one of the uggliest laptops to hit the streets in recent years. Actualy, as mentioned in another thread, I have almost decided not to buy it just because of this. Dell, maybe you should ask your customers and not your engineers what a good laptop should look like.

HP make me laugh.. Anyone ever see there studio where they study and come up with the designs for their machines? It's walls full of pictures cut out of magazines of cars.. That's it.. They design their machines based off cars..

With all the cool fun facts aside...

If you ask me - that's all HP has to offer... A cheaply built, nicely designed chassis.

I've gone into Futureshop and a bunch of other stores, picked up HP machines, closed the lid and inspected the chassis throughly - Wow they suck ass. All plastic all round. When I squeased them - they made creaking sounds and the plastic pushed in and out like it was paper. If I watch the edges where two parts met, I could see the crack close and open as I apply and release pressure.

Just that experience alone turned me off HP entirely. The machines are garbage... They look semi cool and super cheap at the same time - they remind me of PC versions of Mac computers.

This comparison is completely useless. We're comparing a consumer marketed machine to a business machine. Consumers are typically stupid - and will buy anything that is flashy or looks good. Business people prefer to have dark systems because it is more professional feeling. Plus, it being ugly is a bonus, who the hell would wanna steal it then?

By the way, people laugh at you over a machine? Where are you located? Some kind of Computer nerd camp? It's a computer not a frigging social movement or way of life... Lmfao.. That's so Apple user like..

Despite what we may think, ugly or not, our opinions means jack $#^@ to be perfectly honest. Even if it's the ugliest thing that ever existed, it will still sell millions. If you think something is ugly, theres over 40 billion other different laptops out there to pick from, you can't say that the ugly one is the only one that offers what you want.

Yes, I think the Vostro 1000 is ugly, but not the 1400!
