    I've ordered a WD 500 GB 7200 drive and a esata Enclosure,
Should i continue to use the 5400 rpm drive that comes with the laptop, or shall i swap it with the new 7200rpm drive? (I'm just worried about its extra power draw, whether the internals can handle it) else I'll just drop the new drive in the esata box, and I'm guessing it will be just as fast.

You can swap in a 7200 rpm drive. Heat isn't a big issue over a 5400 rpm (maybe 1-2C hotter). Power draw of modern drives isn't a big issue, maybe vibration is (depends on which drive you get). Never had issues with my 320GB Scorpio Black.
