    Anyone receive 1520's lately?

I placed an order Saturday, December 1st.. Early in the morning, and from what the CS Rep told me, Dell's manufacturing department work both Saturdays and Sundays. So basically all 7 days of the week.

I've noticed how many of you seem to have gotten your Inspirons within a week, if not- little over a week. However I'm going on 6 days now, and it's still In Production :(

    How long does it take!!!!!?????

ESD is December 27! I'd die! Though from what I heard, that's just a worst case scenario..
Anyhow, has anyone placed an order for a 1520 recently and already received it? or even have it shipped already?

    New, not refurbished.

Oh, and also. A CS agent once mentioned that once I see the service tag avaliable, that means the system is on the final stages of production, however where can I find this? Don't I need to actually have the system to be able to see the Service Tag? or is it displayed somewhere prior to delivery?
    Thanks in advance.

My 1520 was ordered on 11/28 and has been "in production" since then. It's supposed to ship today (12/6), but as of yet it hasn't. I'll be watching the status like a hawk today and post and let you know what happens.

Ordered a 1520 with 1440x900 LCD (apparently a global shortage of them) and Mine has been in pre-production since 29/11/2007...

not impressed. cust-serv even tried to convince me it was in Production and that the web page I was looking at was out of date. The they said it had been in production since 29/11/2007. Very misleading, I am not impressed.

Not been giving any reason to think there is a delay, but with the many post about 11th hour updates I'm not getting my hopes up.

You think a company with sophisticated JIT ordering would also be able to communicate production status delays with customers a bit better, right?

    Apparently not.

    Order Date: 11/30/2007
    Order Status: In Production
    Shipping Method: 3-5 Business Days
    Est. Ship Date: 12/27/2007
    Est. Delivery Date: 1/1/2008-1/3/2008

Yeah right...new years. I'm not even gonna be in town until January 17th. If DHL sends it back, its gonna be Dell's fault for not being able to get me my product within a month. I mean hell, the the new Inspiron's will probably be out by the time they finish making it. Ridiculous. Dell's screwed me over numerous times, I might just cancel.

That really is ridiculous. =/ You should try calling up Dell and asking for some sort of compensation for the obscene wait time, or at least get them to explain what the hold up is.

Placed my order on the morning of 12/2. Estimated ship date is 12/27!! Throughout the ordering process, the estimated ship date on screen was 12/9. I specifically removed a few options to ensure shipment prior to the holidays and chose Dell over Sony since I figured waiting a week or two would be acceptable. Was I ignorant to think that date on-screen was going to change by such a large amount?

I'm hoping to experience the luck exhibited here by other purchasers and that I'll have mine prior to a two-week vacation I start on 12/22!

    ---
    Don K.
    Placed Order = 12/1
    Order in Production = 12/3
    Estimated Ship Date = 12/27
    Estimated Delivery Date = 12/31.

While I did not order 1520 but the Vostro 1400, I think the same rules apply.

    I originally ordered my 1400 on 12/4:
    ESD: 12/11
    EDD: 12/14 - 12/17

I called yesterday to add another battery, but they had to cancel the order and replace it with a new one. The new order is on 12/5:

    ESD: 12/20
    EDD: 12/25 - 12/27

I called the sales rep complaining that one day of delay in order date caused 9 days of delay in shipment. She said that knowing about the delay she placed an order for expediting the process and asked me not to freak out.

My order is still in production.

The morale of the story is that those Estimated shipment dates can not be taken seriously but just a rough conservative estimate.

I got the same expedite order from a CS rep, and she did mention the same thing of the shipping dates being a conservative estimate. From what the CS rep also mentioned normally, systems take from 7 to 8 days to be built. I'm in 6 days right now, so I'm assuming by somewhere along the weekend, it should change to Boxing, and I'm estimating it should arrive no later than next week Friday. As I mentioned previously the Manufacuturing department works on weekends, so every day counts.

Nontheless, let's keep each other posted on any updates, see if that may ease the impatience we all carry.

Even though I understand how you feel, I think it would be foolish to cancel now, you've already waited for a week, and who knows we aren't certain of anything shipping dates yet, for all we know, next week, we might all get our systems. Just hang in there. At least I feel you should considering if you cancel, not only will you have start from scratch but also, you'll have to wait 3 to 4 days until the money is back into your bank account.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high there guys, Est. Ship Date just got pushed back to 12/13/07 which was originally the day I was supposed to receive my laptop.

I do believe things are awry in Dell-land. =P

That confirms my suspicion. Your ship date has been pushed back 7 days.
My 1400 was basically pushed back 8 days.

Maybe that has to do with the anticipation of increased orders and delivery problems around Christmas ?

I would go talk to Customer Service, because they were great for me. I told them my situation, and touched on my displeasure for such a long shipping date. She told me that the shipping estimate was very conservative, but was still willing to help me. I would have preferred the laptop be shipped to my California address since I will probably be there when the laptop ships, but the ridiculous California tax would've added at least $24 to the total price, they she told me that she could switch the shipping address, and I would pay Maryland tax, not California tax, which was excellent. Then on top of that, without asking, she upgraded my shipping to next Business Day. I wasn't expecting such generous compensation.

So if I were any of you, talk to Dell. I used the chat function, which I find more helpful since you can understand what most reps say. I'm not very good at translating accents, but usually the reps have a good understand of the English language.

Yeah, I do believe I will. I really want to know what's going on and hopefully get some form of compensation.

I placed my order on 26/11 in the evening, order was confirmed morning of the 27/11 and payment taken on 28/11. On the 28th it said it was being put into preproduction and at the time the EDD was 10/12 and I have been check my status daily but there was no change. Then I recieved a email today saying its been put back to 14/12. But reading some people on here I don't know whether to believe this or not. Also I have just check my order status page and it says it was put into preproduction on the 6/12, so today, so someone is fibbing to me

It seems like the events of this summer (read: widespread and constant delays on 1520s) are repeating themselves; hopefully Dell will be able to straighten things out and get our orders to us by Christmas.

I just don't understand why they can't be honest and instead of saying it was in preproduction say it was awaiting preproduction, rather than just specifying a date then changing it, then changing it again etc. Better customer service is needed especially on the phones from what I have seen and heard, I mean 2 years ago my dad tried to order a laptop on the phone from dell and the 1st person he spoke to (in india) didn't understand what he was saying, so he got transfered to someone else.

It really doesn't make sense that they're lying/hiding the truth like that (or so it seems). I suppose they don't want to tell the truth and scare customers out of making purchases?

I strongly doubt they are "lying" or even "hiding" anything, I do think though that they could display more information, or be a little more specific.. In Production includes so many stages. Getting the parts, assmbley, installments of softwares, testing, then preparations for shipping, then packaging. I think they should be able to tell as at least this little piece of information, I think that would ease our impatience up a little.

It's as if you were on a flight to somewhere, without knowing the flight time basically, and to top it all off, at night!

It is true that they do not give the details on-line other than in production or shipped. But if you call their 800-999-3355 and ask for check status, they give more details, such as being built /testing/ boxing etc ..

Just got out of a chat with Dell support and the only item delaying my order is "Spring Green color w/ 2.0M pixel Camera."

Has anyone else chatted with Dell and gotten answers as to the delay for their systems?

I just did the same and was told that my order was in the boxing stage? That contradicts what I've seen on the order status page and what I was just told in chat. My only guess is that the phone line is basing its information off the order status page, which is now out of date?

Oh, how do I hope that number is right though! XD

Refurbished systems usually ship the next day. The last system I bought from Dell I ordered May 3rd, 2nd business day and it was already shipped May 4th, and arrived May 6th.

The ship date in all seems the same, all agents seem to respond in the same manner, it's like talking to a computer. They all reassure me that as and I quote "per their experience all systems usually ship long before their estimated ship date." So as of now, I have nothing to be cheerful over expect the fact that there will be no delays.

Haha, same. The second Dell chat agent I spoke to today told me that my laptop was still shipping on time (uhhhh...day's almost over, so I don't think that's true), but upgraded me to free overnight shipping. So, I'm pretty happy about that.

I agree that they do sound like computers themselves. XD

For some reason I think the automated number would be the most accurate one of all mentioned.. It's automated so it should be updated a lot more often than the 11 hour cycle it takes for the order status page to update.
As of now, I'm not impatient anymore, Haha, with so many posts going on around here in regards to Dell system delays, I just want to receive mine.

Welcome to the waiting room :D
I'm finding it rather strange that when I placed my order there was a lead time for all colored lids with the exception of Espresso Brown, and Ruby Red. However I am the only one who got December 27 as a shipping date, and there is so supposed to be nothing delaying my system.

As your system entered the production stage yesterday, and mine didn't even go through Pre-Production, it inmediately jumped to In Production the same day my order was placed, I am starting to get annoyed with Dell.
Upon purchase the Preliminary Ship Date was supposed to be 12/07/2007 and then it jumped to 12/27/2007 after I actually paid for it.

no way should it take 28 days to get a laptop... i know the old saying that everytime you buy a computer it will be out of date witihin 6 months, well what if you dont get it for the 1st month, lol.

i will be angry as heck if it dont come by next friday... well it came to £670 ($1360), and the only compairable model i saw as an alternitive is the Acer 5020 which was £750 ($1521)...

oh well... this time next week, fingers crossed for me... hopfully for you too

Well just phoned them up and actually my order has been in production since yesterday, not preproduction as the website says. I went through to the automated order status which said it was in preproduction, then went through to someone who told me it was definately in production. Moral of the story phone them up, you get much better info (if you can understand them, I could only just)

This is too much. So I just contacted a CS rep, and unlike what they told me earlier, a system doesn't take 7 to 8 days to build, it takes 10 - 15 now.. OMG! She, if it even was a she, I can never tell with those names, said she was sure I would receive my system much before the ESD, I don't even believe any of them anymore, one day it's one thing, another day is another.

The preliminary ship date was supposed to be today! and here I am like a complete fool waiting for something that will probably not even get here this month.

Oh, and to top it all, there are no delays for my system parts, I guess I was just handpicked to be screwed.

apparently mine will take 14 days (10busnes days) to be at my door... im just keeping the faith at the moment... although to be fair to dell it is a busy time of year, but they do not know what the hell they are talking about when you actualy converse with them, each person i speak to contradicts everyone else... i asked about 12 of them if i would get a dell express card media remote as standard with the 1520, 8 said yes, an 4 said no you have to pick the option... when i said there isnt an option, they said "its not an option to be picked online" THEN HOW THE HELL IS IT AN OPTION YOU NINCOMPOOP!!!

    and brethe...

    Just a day late =)
That's great though, hey it got moved to overnight, so for all you know, you might receive it tomorrow, or monday in case they won't work saturdays. So that's good.

well Deano.UK I went chat online to ask a simple question about the remote. Does my machine come with one. What is the evalue code. I give the one for my machine that is not applicable anymore and they say that it is an old code and that I have to phone up customer services. All I want to know is if I get a remote as standard with my laptop

Ordered my Inspiron 1520 at around 10pm on the 3rd December. So because of that the dell site says the order date was the 4th (which i can understand). Estimated Delivery Date is the 17th. Currently in pre-production.

My specs are basically the same as yours Deano.UK. Only differences are that I've ordered the 250GB HDD and went for the normal b/g wireless.

    @Deano.UK

You are so lucky. I ordered almost exactly the same spec as you on 28/11/2007 and I'm still in pre-production 9 days later having just had my EDD moved from 11/12 to 20/12.

    :-(

That really annoys me, why can't they do anything with mine, or least tell me what's delaying the build so I can maybe choose another option.

And how can I believe the new shipping date of 20th? It's seem to be just a made up date from thin air. I wish I'd known about this a week ago, now have to decide whether to just cancel and go buy a mac instead... hmm.....

Judging by the buzz elsewhere it looks like my stocking is going to be empty.

Dell have some very serious stock issues and they're not being very up front about it...
