After the 710m, I can't believe Dell hasn't introduced a new 12" Inspiron notebook. I know there's the XPS M1210, but they never have the deals the the Inspirons have, and I don't need dedicated graphics (or at least a mid-range graphics card, I can do with a low-range). There's the Lattitude d420, but again on the deals and no built in optical and it's a ULV processor. Has anyone heard that dell is going to release a 12" in the consumer non-gamer category of their notebooks? If I'd of known, I would have snatched up a 710m for cheap before they left the site (albeit without the nice new Core 2).

I would have to say probably not, since the M1210 can come equipped with the Intel 950 graphics and is priced just about right.
Dell had a lot of problems with the 700m/710m (audio and video problems), so it is no surprise they don't have a 720m (or e1205).
The 710m also had an older Banias-class Pentium M, which is FOUR generations old now and is a single core machine...which means they were charging WAY too much (given the old tech). You probably don't want that! -
M1210 is the most selling Dell Notebook now and probably Dell is making a big fortune from it. I think Dell will not introduce another 12" to compete with M1210. Having said that it will be always nice to have an alternative 12" to M1210 with low price!

The 710m used the Dothan Pentium Ms.
-
Or was that the name of the last Pentium M?
Either way, it is old. -
There were three versions of the Pentium M, the first was the noted Banias. It ran at 24W and had the 1MB L2 cache. Next came the Dothan. It ran at 21W and had the 2MB L2 chache. The last Pentium M was the Sonoma. It had a Dothan core, but increased the FSB speed to 533MHz and ran at 27W. The 700/710m came after the release of the Dothan. I don't think they ever used the Banias or Sonoma in it. Many believe the Dothan to be the best of the Penitum Ms as it ran at lower power than the Sonoma which only offered a slight performance advantage.

Dell won't be releasing any more Inspiron notebooks this year, you can get the M1210 without the dedicated graphics card for a pretty good deal -- although agreeably not as cheap as the 710m.
Anyone know of plans for 12" inspiron?
