I know there are alternatives, but does anyone know where if anywhere this software is available, either for purchase or "trial"?

It's something specially built for Dell, I believe -- it's pretty worthless. Why do you want it?

Even if its software enhancement, I've heard it makes the sound quality a little better with mp3s (though not gaming). I'd love just to try it.

If someone can get a hold of this, and I can try it, i would consider attempting purchase from Dell if I like it. I listen to music all the time.

I'm curious as to how a piece of software would make an mp3 sound better?

I can think of ways to get better sound:

    - higher quality audio formats (or higher bitrate compressed music)
    - higher quality sound cards (expresscard, firewire or usb add-ons)
    - higher quality speakers or headphones

but I can't imagine how (outside of digital signal processing) would make the same piece of hardware sound any different?

Unless the non-creative logic drivers are purposely limited or buggy.

because of patented ways Creative processes the sounds. It would also have to do with additional features the Creative drivers give the current hardware. It's honestly kind of hard to explain, but it's like upgrading your current digital signal processor with another, or using software. Or maybe like when you upgrade the drivers for your video card. Some are better then others...

I use Audigy cards myself, however when you say it sounds "better" its more like they just apply some DSP effects to the output. When listening to MP3s, I want it to sound like the original. Often the best reproduction comes from higher quality hardware pushing the analog output (if using headphones).

according to preliminary information, sound blaster audigy actually has a different sound card than normal where the software activates something within the sound card for better sound. the two sound cards are supposedly different.

Nope. Same card. If you didn't get the software from Dell you can buy it after you get your notebook. Should be a link on the desktop to it. You can also find in on the Creative website.

Even if it is a software based DSP approach for the conventional hardware way I doubt it will enhance the sound to a very good extent and even if it does it is going to put extra load on the system (which is not the case with the hardware approach)..... So I dont think it is a considerable option....

Anyway since I've not seen this in action (until now since I havent got a lappy yet) I cannot give my final verdict.... :)
