Hi!
Im having problems with an overheating dell inspiron 5150 the processor gets ridiculously hot when im doing anything which even vaguely demands processor power. The first time i had problems, the computer was under warranty and dell took it away, said the fan/heat sink were dirty and gave it a clean out...it came back and worked like a dream!
The same thing is happening again, and Ive been in touch with them again, and they reckon its a software fault and have told me to reinstall windows (like that will somehow magically clean the fan!)..so they wont fix it. If only i could get into the computer myself, i reckon i could sort it out myself...give it all a good clean-out, and hopefully have a smooth-working pc once again.
So, anyone know how to get into one of these things without breaking it? There seem to be some casing screws conveniently located beneath the screen hinges. Ive taken all the other screws out, but these ones seem to be keeping the thing together. Can anyone help?
If anyone knows how to get into this fortress, id be most grateful as the computer is getting more and more difficult to use. Any relevant advice would also be much appreciated.
Cheers!

Well, I have worked before with Dell Computer Corp. in their laptop segment and would like to tell you something about Inspiron 5150.
This laptop suffers a lot from the heating problems and I can bet that so far you have also had a lot of other hardware issues with this machine. This is the reason why Dell stopped manufacturing this laptop within 6 months of bringing it in the market. If you compare this time period with Inspiron 600M, which has been consistently being produced for more than 2 years now.
I would suggest that rather than spending a fortune on this laptop, get yourself another machine, preferably Sony, HP, IBM or Toshiba. If you want a good bargain you can also try Acer, but any of these companies won't be able to match the customer services provided to you by Dell. So in this respect Inspiron 6000 from the stable of Dell is proving to be a competitive machine and would be a good option. -
well, since you were quite satisfied with the heat issue after it was cleaned... you have a couple options...
1. get a can of compressed air and blow out the vents on your machine
2. dell's service site has extensive online manuals for disassembly. enter your machine's specs or your service tag number and you will get manuals showing you how to take apart your notebook with handy pictures.
Anyone know how to get into a dell Inspiron 5150 ?
