I installed the beta version of 64bit vista today.

Everything seemed to work fine until i installed some drivers (the few that were available) from the dell website.
The computer actually ran worse (lower subscores)..The main drop in the scores was the graphics. It went from 5.9 to 2.8.
The dell drivers i installed. (chipset, sound, and system software)
I didnt use the bluetooth, network card or 945GM graphics controller drivers.

After messing w/ the settings and no luck from that I went to nvidia.com to try and install the beta 64bit drivers and it says it doesnt recognize any compatible hardware. huh?? i have a 7900 GS

After all that i just reinstalled Windows Vista 64 bit. Should i just not install the dell drivers? It seems to be running fine but i want the best performance possible while i try out vista.

oh, and does anyone know what a "Base system Device" would be in the device manager?

I have 2 showing with error icons next to them under the "Other Devices" tab.

Other than those 2 everything else seems to be working.

My guess would be the media card readers. Have you checked them to see if they're working. When I was running Vista a while back ago, the Ricoh media card readers weren't installed by default. Check Dell's website for drivers. I just used the XP drivers back then and they seemed to work fine, but there should be Vista drivers by now.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit Edition installed. The Base System Devices that are showing up under the Device Manager have to do with the Ricoh SD card reader. It will still function without the device but if you install the Ricoh drivers the Base System Devices will go away. I did it a few weeks ago, I don't remember if I used the Dell Ricoh drivers, but I am pretty sure I did.
