When I was in Chennai, India late last year, I happened to drive by Dell's factory. Here's the photo I managed to take while speeding by: dellchennai.jpg

According to Wikipedia, this factory should already be producing notebooks:

But from it's appearance a couple of months ago, the factory didn't look completed yet...

Has anyone received any kind of Dell computer with "Made in India" on it?

Going by the number of Indian colleagues buying Dell notebooks from USA, during their short stay here in our office, I doubt if Indians themselves are interested in a "Made/Assembled in India" product. I highly doubt any Dell product when made/assembled in India will be shipped to USA.

I'm sure they have quality control just like in Malaysia...?

So... where do you think they'll be sold, exactly?

No offence intended. My opinions were based on what the Indians who came to our office in USA told us about their country.

With the world becoming a global village, Dell will have to ensure that their Indian plant is at par with their other facilities or lose business.

I believe they may assemble/manufacture low cost desktops, printer cartridges/toners for selling in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka.

No offense taken, your Indian colleagues buying notebooks here is probably more a factor of price...

I would expect that a Dell factory in India could produce a computer of the same quality as a similar factory in Malaysia or China? (if Dell intended it to be the same quality...)

By the way, right next to the Dell factory was a Nokia, Ford, Hyunduai factory, etc... So Dell is not alone.
