The precision laptops do, but I dont think the others do.

I heavily use the middle mouse button when opening up tabs in firefox.

Pressing both buttons together operates the conventional 'middle click' action in softwares.

L.Rawlins is right. Clicking both buttons together on my Vostro 1400 with Vista does a middle click. I don't know whether this is a Vista feature or the trackpad daemon though. If you're running Linux then Xorg will do this by default regardless.

I love the pointer on my 8200. I really wish the new ones had it too, but I guess I'll have to get used to that darn touchpad.

I love the pointer because you can leave your hands on the keyboard and don't have to move back and forth between the mouse and keyboard. Index finger works pointer, thumb works the buttons. It makes moving and typing so much easier...

I'm using XP Pro at work and it functions in this flavour of Windows too. I believe it has existed in quite a number of incarnations of operating systems and is by no means 'a new thing' to notebooks.

It just doesn't declare itself to a user quite as readily as the visual cue of an actual third button on the notebook.
